22. and serve as your co-host. And normally we have our co-host, our third wheel, Carl Brouwer,
23. industry executive analyst. His whereabouts are unknown. Carl and I were up in Seattle
24. driving. No, we weren't even driving a Ford that we will get to later on this hour. And I don't
25. know if he made it back. Maybe he's up there. Maybe he opened a coffee shop up there. Carl,
26. if you're listening, call in. Although he does not like coffee. So what did he do up there?
27. I don't know. Maybe he went for a mountain climb on Mount Rainier. Opened a gym. Who knows? Okay.
28. But it's just me and Michelle this week. We will keep things lively. Even without Carl,
29. We'll have to do our best. We're going to dive right into our calendar of car-like events.
30. Michelle will start us off.
31. Yeah, we have a great event coming up at El Pete, otherwise known as the Peterson Automotive Museum on Wilshire and Fairfax.

33. It went down. It was bumped down a little bit.

35. Classic Italian car.

39. That's not the official name in case for those listening who aren't familiar.
40. It's the Peterson Automotive Museum at Wilshire and Fairfax there.

42. Sunday, June 28th from 9 to noon will be their Italian car cruise in.
43. This is an annual event.
44. Am I right?
45. They have so many cool cruise ins there.
46. I was just there for the BMW cruise in.
47. I was on another assignment during, I think it was the last week or the week before, was a Japanese car cruise in.
48. And I'm still trying to get pictures from those guys from the Peterson so that I can publish a gallery at AutoWeek.com.
49. Have not gotten those yet.
50. May never get those.
51. But they have a bunch of cool Cruisans, usually with a theme on them.
52. And, of course, this one is the Italian car Cruisan.
53. Now, I don't know if I'm going to be able to bring the Appia there.
54. It is running.
55. It is running well.
56. A couple weeks ago, it started on the first crank.
57. Wow.

67. other things you have to register if you're going to actually show your car at the cruise in
68. and they usually have a commemorative poster that goes with your registration to show your car
69. and also don't forget you get complimentary admission to the museum so once you're done
70. showing your car you can just make your way on into the museum and check out all
71. of the really cool displays they have yeah um and it's 35 to show a car officially
72. show a car you could say you're just going to park and then try to sneak in good luck with that let
73. us know how that went but if you want to officially go in and show your car then uh you have to pay
74. them money so if you're showing your car it's up on p3 or p4 i think both certainly p3 usually they
75. add on p4 yeah yeah but getting into the museum is well worth it uh just that uh the mercedes
76. exhibit was outstanding. It's still there. It's there all year. So you have lots of time to do
77. it. But if you go to any of these cruisings, pay for the admission to get into the museum just to
78. see that. It's beautiful. And then all the other floors, they have a bunch of other stuff. We're
79. really lucky. I think we have the best car museum in the world here in Los Angeles.
80. We do. We're very blessed. And the fact that they rotate cars in and out from their vault
81. is another just amazing thing that peterson automotive museum does that a lot of other
82. museums just don't have the storage space or the the reach to obtain classic cars to
83. keep in a vault and then rotate out with exhibits so uh other other other museums don't have the
84. board of directors consisting of a whole bunch of really rich guys who really like cars either i I think that is really how that Peterson has stood out so well So we never have a chance of getting on the board huh
85. Speak for yourself, man.
86. Because they cater the board meetings. I've seen the board meetings in there.
87. Oh, nice.

121. Now, Santa Anita Park, of course, is a big horse racing track,
122. and it has an enormous infield and it sounds like they're getting together a bunch of interesting
123. shows in there a few weeks ago they had the motorcycle show and june 13th sunday nina park
124. infield they're gonna have luftzeigen which is a celebration of air-cooled vehicles most of them
125. at least on their poster were volkswagens but they also had a couple of porsches so you don't know
126. what you're going to see there. And I understand Mike at Volks Stuff said they have at least 325
127. VWs already pre-registered. So there'll be a lot of cars there. It'd be kind of fun. And
128. you can bet on the ponies right there while you're at the car show and pay for the whole trip,
129. right? Yeah, ideally. I actually have pretty good luck at the ponies. So yeah, that might be an
130. option for me are you up uh lifetime or are you down lifetime oh i'm up oh yeah yeah for sure
131. i went there in high school i think and i i bet on the exacta and i won 75 bucks and
132. that's the only time i ever bet on the horse i'm up yes so yeah this san anito park is getting a
133. lot of car shows the uh subi fest was there last year and is going back this year i hear
134. Yeah, it is. And we'll get you a date on that probably in the next show.

154. a restaurant down at this place uh this particular location usually they hold that at some place where
155. you can get something to eat but uh you know it'll be fun it'll be a good time so uh yeah and you can
156. just sort of give them a follow at, uh, at the, the moto social on the Instagram there. And they
157. will, uh, they will, uh, take care of you. You'll have a good time. Right. And their motto is don't
158. be a dud, be a bud. I'm getting a tattoo. That's great. Yeah. Yeah. What kind of bud?
159. All right. Oh, boo. What's going on in Palisades, Michelle? All right. Well, one of our favorite car shows coming up in terms of happy to promote them is the Pacific Palisades Motor Classic.
160. that's in one week folks saturday june 13th and this is a comeback car show for pacific palisades
161. to show that this community is rebuilding that the fires have not devastated their spirit and so
162. they want a lot of people to show up and show their support by showing their cars and this
163. event will take place at Palisades Village Green. It's right off of Sunset Boulevard
164. at La Cruz Drive. If you'd like to get more information about the show and get tickets,
165. which you do have to buy tickets. This is not a show up, you know, without...
166. Well, spectators are free.
167. Yeah, spectators are free, but if you want to show your car, you have to go to their Instagram page, Pali, P-A-L-I, Motor Classic.

181. It's held at Lacey Park, and the cars drive through, and there's music playing, and you get dinner, and that's a nice thing.
182. And then on Sunday, June 14th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. is the San Marino Motor Classic, where you will be able to see the fabulous Lancia Appia.
183. You know, you can stuff the ballot box for that.
184. Or you can buy it or just crash into it so I can collect the insurance.
185. Saturday, Sunday, June 14th, 9 to 3 at Lacey Park in San Marino.
186. Yes, and we have Joe Salvo on the show, chairman of the selection committee for the San Marino Motor Classic, who's told us that they have a new class for resto mods this year.
187. In addition to their classes for muscle cars, pony cars, original woodies, American car classics, and they have a class for preservations.

218. But we get to the car that he made and that I drove just recently So we get that later in the Drive Reviews section We wanted to mention that this particular Ford Cars and Coffee since it does have a limited

223. Let's skip on down to the L.A. Roadster Show, the 60th L.A. Roadster Show and swap at the Fairplex in Pomona, June 19th through 20th.
224. There are just hundreds and hundreds, maybe over 1,000 roadsters, like your 32 Ford Roadster type thing.
225. They're just all over the place there.
226. So this has been a tradition.
227. I think after 60 years, you can call it a tradition.

326. We were just looking at the Ford Bronco Filson.
327. Now, I'm saying Filson.
328. I don't think it's Fileson.
329. I think it's Filson.
330. And Michelle, do you know what Filson is?
331. Filson is an upscale outdoor clothing brand that has been around not so much on the West Coast,
332. but in the East Coast and the Central Area, Central Mountain.
333. Actually, they were founded in the Pacific Northwest 130 years ago to outfit the guys going up for the Klondike Gold Rush.
334. Okay.
335. their thing was they would make a canvas jacket and they would coat it in wax this was before
336. gore-tex so if you wanted to stay dry in miserable weather in seattle you got yourself a filson and
337. so they are still there's still a little tiny shop they're making stuff and there's a store there
338. they have stores all across the country so why are we talking about this because it's sort of
339. replacing the Eddie Bauer edition.
340. Yeah.
341. Now, the guys, so this is going to be a Ford Bronco Filson edition.
342. Now, anybody who's keeping score, you know that in 2026 alone,
343. they had the Bill Strop edition, the Heritage edition,
344. and the 60th anniversary edition of the Bronco.
345. So to that comes the 2027 Filson or Bronco Filson.
346. They want to make sure the Bronco is the first one.
347. The new Bronco Filson gets new trim, softer suspension, added sound insulation, and a
348. couple of design flourishes here and there But the most interesting thing about it possibly is that it gets the Raptor engine So the three turbocharged V6 from the current Raptor
349. Now, in the Raptor, that engine makes 418 horsepower.
350. So they didn't say what exactly it's going to make in this new Filson Edition Bronco when that vehicle comes out, I think, in early 2027.
351. so uh but one thing that they wanted to submit it was kind of comical i said well does that mean the
352. this uh the bronco filson is sort of a more civilized bronco and both the chief engineer
353. and the pr guy just leaped up as if i had you know pulled a knife and they said no
354. it is not more civilized and the chief engineer says this is not luxury
355. it's like come on man this is just marketing you soften the suspension you made it quieter
356. you made it aerodynamically more efficient so that you don't get as much wind noise
357. but that's not civilized no it's not civilized more plush interior too yeah they have a bunch
358. of cool things on the inside yes i don't know but more soft touch stuff versus hard stuff and
359. A lot of little touches from Filson, like the little buttons have the Filson logo decorating.
360. You know, just little upgrades, I should say.
361. Yeah, and they added the grab handle on the passenger side to get in, like on the A-pillar.
362. Oh, they should have done that already, but that's a good add-on.
363. And there's a stiffening brace on the rear of the, you know, I don't think they call it a roll cage for, you know, legal reasons.
364. But they added a stiffening brace there.
365. I believe that was from the Raptor, if I'm not mistaken.
366. And it's just all around kind of a cool thing.
367. It's going to cost in the mid-70s.
368. Yikes!
369. Now, you can get a Bronco.
370. You can start on a Bronco for, I think, the low 40s, if I'm not mistaken.
371. But this one also gets, in addition to everything that I said,
372. it gets the Sasquatch off-road package with front and rear electronic locking differentials,
373. which is, that alone, I think, would be worth having.
374. You get standard high-performance Fox shocks, 35-inch rugged terrain tires.
375. That's, I mean, and a whole bunch of other stuff that goes on and on.
376. So it's a well-equipped, highly capable Bronco with this Filson stuff.
377. I don't know.
378. Filson, to me, that's not a, I wouldn't associate, if it was just the word, not knowing anything else about it,
379. it sounds like i don't know pilfer or it sounds like something that was illegal to do in the 50s
380. but then in the enlightenment came and now it's okay you can filson anyone you want it's your
381. choice but no it's uh a clothing maker it replaced eddie bauer so i don't know well uh is it made for
382. off-roading oh by definitely i mean it it'll it'll crush off-road i think it'll do really well
383. off-road it's got the goat uh yeah switches yeah yeah yeah so it'll do really well off-road
384. but they didn't let us drive it so we just got to look at it and we couldn't even look
385. under the hood because one of the cars that they had didn't have the v6 in it it had some other
386. engine oh did you see it rolling though like did someone else drive it you can't see it rolling
387. oh it was just parked you can see uh pictures uh where it was parked at autoweek.com check that
388. Yeah.
389. Has a Bang & Olufsen branded audio system.
390. Well, see, that's a luxury touch.
391. It's a luxury touch.
392. That is a luxury touch.
393. I don't see that in cars in the review that are not luxury.
394. We even got a tour of this very, very small Filson, I wouldn't even call
395. lot of factory i think there were probably about less fewer than 10 people there uh nice ladies
396. working sewing machines sewing together filson stuff most of the filson gear is offshored so
397. maybe i mean if you want to be cynical you could say it was for show but
398. i was gonna say carl did a youtube review already um next to the parked
399. Bronco Filson

421. Mazda has let us know this week that they announced a new color for the Miata.

430. Very important because Mazda doesn't just announce new colors.
431. This is a big deal.
432. Mazda really cares about the colors, and it takes forever to get a new color on a Mazda.
433. So on 2027 models of the Soft Top MX-5, which is the Mazda terminology for the Miata,
434. and the Mazda RF retractable hard top version of the Miata,
435. they have rolled out their announcement on zinc green metallic and yay if you would like to check
436. it out it's all over social media just or you can google it zinc green metallic miyata color and you
437. can see for yourself whether you like it or not all right but there's more legal news thank god
438. we have a lawyer on staff what is the next legal right so i couldn't ignore this at all this week
439. I wanted to ignore the news that I saw headlines saying things about California is going to ban performance tires.

443. They always get it wrong because they're not lawyers and they can't read a proposed legislation.
444. So first of all, it is not legislation.
445. It is a recommendation in a report by the California Energy Commission.

447. But it would, if enacted by the CEC, it would become a requirement, right?
448. It has to go through, well, it has to add to the California Code of Regulations.
449. So this is a long way to go, all right?
450. But yeah, it does not have to go through the legislative process.
451. But this is what I'm saying is that's the legal distinction.
452. OK, maybe a lawyer cares about.
453. But it's it's inaccurate to say that it's, you know, going through Sacramento.
454. It's the California Energy Commission.
455. All right. So what exactly is or is being proposed?
456. They are proposing they modeling what they want to do with aftermarket tires So this would be replacement tires after you already purchased your car and you want to replace them they want to model the California rules on replacement tires after what going on
457. already in the European Union. And they have strict rules on replacement tires. And this would
458. eliminate a lot of heavy grip and roll resistant tires. In order to maximize fuel consumption in
459. California. It wouldn't eliminate roll resistant tires. It would encourage the increased rolling
460. or the decreased rolling resistance of the tires. I think that's what you meant.
461. Right. They target the sales of the aftermarket heavy grip and roll resistant tires.
462. They want to make them so that they are not as grippy and that they don't help you around curves.
463. Kind of like EV tires now.
464. Pretty much. Yeah. So this would be proposed to start on January 1st, 2028. As I've educated us all, new laws start on January or July of each year. So 2028, it's not coming up soon and it's got a long way to go before it gets there.
465. As proposed right now, looking at the current EU standards and mimicking those for this proposed rule, any tires that would come into California to be on sale before January 1st, 2028, there's no rules.
466. But for after that date, they have 9.4 newtons or kilonewtons required.
467. and that's no one knows what that is no one knows what it is you can look it up if you would like
468. it's a physics term that measures and this is what the eu has been using to measure the coefficient
469. of friction of tires on a road okay all right and if you would like to participate in this you have
470. till next tuesday to email your comments and concerns to this committee all right here's the
471. Email address, docket at energy.ca.gov.
472. It sounds like, though, it's the kind of thing they've probably already made up their mind on.
473. It's just going to happen.
474. So we're all going to have to, you know, my Camaro, if I had a Camaro, is going to have to run on EV tires, low rolling resistance EV tires.
475. Which, okay, maybe you save a little bit of gas, but you also have more crashes because you don't have as much lateral grip.
476. You're giving up lateral grip.
477. So you're going around a corner.
478. It's like, remember the first Scion FR-S?
479. It ran on the Toyota Prius tires.
480. That was a blast, I thought, because they broke away really easily and you could slide around.
481. But is that safe?
482. Is that better to have a tire with less lateral grip in order to get more, you know?

484. But, you know, obviously there's opposition and SEMA is leading the opposition.

Okay, the Lexus LFZC, which was going to be the flagship next-generation electric vehicle that was supposed to rocket launch the automaker's battery electric ambitions while showcasing a host of advanced manufacturing technologies designed to make Toyota more competitive with EV leaders such as Tesla, is being canceled.
495. Japanese automaker gave it the axe.
496. The decision marks a big step back from plans unveiled in 2023, sort of at the height of the EV hysteria,
497. when every carmaker thought it was just inevitable that they were going to have to have a complete line of electric cars.
498. And the market said, no, not quite yet.
499. So back in 2023, Lexus placed the LV ZC sedan at the center of a new family of EVs.
500. Remember there was that big picture with, I don't know, it looked like 20 or 30 electric vehicles.
501. And I guess, I don't know where all of them are, but we know now, we know the LVZC production version that was slated to launch this year has got the axe.

612. Michelle Spencer. Yes, this week I have a very premium luxury sedan and it's not a BMW
613. and it's not a Lexus and it's not a Mercedes. It is a Genesis.
614. So this is such a sleeper of a luxury sports sedan that a lot of people should take a look at
615. Because when you compare a G70 Genesis sedan with a BMW 3 Series, what's the entry level for Mercedes?
616. S-Class?
617. The C-Class.
618. C-Class.
619. The S-Class is the other end of the expensive end.
620. Okay.
621. You can't beat it on value.
622. You really can't.
623. As tested, I had the four-door, five-passenger, 3.3 twin turbo.
624. And this thing has 365 horsepower.
625. And it has a luxury interior.
626. Okay?
627. This thing has beautiful interior amenities.
628. It does have the soft touch surfaces all around, including not only quilted seats in the edition I had, which is the top end,
629. sport stitching in orange and coordinating seat belts in orange.
630. But everything in there is so comfortable.
631. I have to say, how long have I been testing cars now?
632. It's over 10 years.
633. These are the most comfortable seats I've ever felt in a vehicle.
634. Absolutely.
635. It was the Cortana started by Chanel.
636. I still remember that from last month.
637. It was the bolstering, and I just felt like sometimes you get shorted on the legs in the thigh area where it doesn't extend enough.
638. It was perfect there.
639. It was perfect side bolstering.
640. There was all these adjustments where you could get your lumbar just right, and the headrest was just right.
641. It was a pleasure to drive, and I took it to L.A. and back.
642. two and a half hours in traffic up and one hour back to Orange County. So comfortable. Plus,
643. heated and ventilated seats and heated steering wheel. I had a great time driving this car. It is
644. also an automatic. It has an eight speed and paddle shifters. So if you want to, you can always
645. pretend you are in a manual using your paddles. Five drive modes, eco, which I use most,
646. comfort, sport, and sport plus. Could you feel a difference? Yes, absolutely. You can feel a
647. difference and you can hear the difference too. So even between sport and sport plus,
648. I changed it a few times and it has a really nice growl.
649. Yep.
650. I enjoyed it a lot.
651. There's another version of it.
652. That's a 2.5 turbo and that has 300 horsepower and that's only a four cylinder, but you know,
653. the pricing is, is adjusted accordingly.
654. So that one will get you, you can get into the, the four cylinder for in the low forties.
655. and as tested, I was in the high fifties. Okay. So very nice car. And, uh, there was one problem.
656. What It has an infotainment system that is very frustrating And why I know a lot of people don Because we both old and we don know how to operate things like that
657. It is not true.
658. We don't know how to operate these things.
659. I had paired my phone.
660. I expected that the Apple CarPlay would seamlessly pop up.
661. Right.
662. And it did not.
663. What?
664. And in conferring with our colleague and friend, Ed Kim, who also tested this vehicle, he informed me that it does not pair wirelessly.
665. Oh, it has to be wired.
666. That's interesting.
667. Yes.
668. So you have to get a cable.
669. So I go and get my standard USB-C cable.
670. And guess what?
671. There's no port for it.
672. Ooh.
673. Yeah.
674. It requires a cable, but there's nowhere to plug the cable in.
675. Yeah.
676. There is in the backseat for the USB-C.
677. and a long cable in the front you have to use a standard usb cable so this people is not state
678. of the art okay and i did find one and so that's how i had to get due to get my apple carplay to
679. uh populate into the screen okay and so that's a huge um come on guys you can do better than this
680. comment about the car okay all right other than that beautiful car enjoyed it lots of torque
681. I believe zero to 60 in four seconds or our buddies at current car driver got
682. zero to 60 in 4.5 seconds for the 3.3 liter V six.
683. And they said with the 300 and 300 horsepower,
684. 2.5 liter turbo and all wheel drive, they got zero to 60 in 5.9 seconds.
685. So those, those are perfectly fine. In fact, quite sporty numbers,
686. 4.5 seconds,
687. Not too many years ago would have been a pretty impressive number.
688. And even today, I think it does more than enough of the job, gets you there.
689. Yes.
690. And since I'm really into how things look, I loved how it looked.
691. And it's just the right size.
692. And my six foot four son-in-law was able to sit in the backseat comfortably.
693. No problem.

697. so the car driver also got 21 mpg city 29 highway with all-wheel drive they got 20 city 28 highway
698. right so i did better than that actually um mostly because i was in eco mode but when we were
699. driving up to la in traffic it was in the low 20s but driving back with no traffic i got 30.6 mpg
700. okay all right so yeah thank you very enjoyable vehicle thank you very much genesis for that
701. genesis is going to be at lamala this year so maybe they'll do something maybe they'll do
702. something great all right i don't know they've got a lot of money and a lot of guys and they
703. got jackie x leading the whole thing ah yes and don't forget also about genesis they have
704. the best warranty in the business, which also beats the Germans with a stick because it's a
705. 10 year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Okay. Adds to the value, right? Yes, indeed it does.
706. Okay. Let's move on. Let's move on to the next, actually the final test. And this was just the
707. Funkiest thing I've driven in, I don't know how long.

710. Edsel Ford the son of Henry Ford he and a designer named Gregoire I think was his name They built a one Maybe it was a concept car I don know what but in like about 1940 they built this one roadster and it was
711. it was quite something. It's the car then was called the 1934 Ford 40
712. special speedster boat tail. Now that car,
713. car i mean i was aware of it just because i write about cars and i i knew it was out there i never
714. thought it was that attractive i don't know but these two guys in argentina who have made just
715. some beautiful beautiful cars they they do what they call they don't call them recreations they
716. call them evocations like evocative of so they have done in the past they have done a 1931 mercedes
717. Benz SSK Count Trossi, a 1952 Alfa Romeo DV C52 Fianchi Stretti.
718. And they also did a beautiful red Maserati 450S.
719. Remember that car that was in the movie Ferrari, Racing Against Ferrari?
720. Maserati had those.
721. And so those are just stunning, beautiful cars when you look at them.
722. But the guys chose for their latest project to make an evocation of this 1934 Ford 40 Special Speedster Boattail, which I just I don't understand why they did that.
723. They called the new model the SP40 Restomod Speedster.
724. and it's just i don't know you can go to autoweek.com and see a lot of pictures of it you
725. can get my thoughts on it there uh it just i i don't want i don't want to bash it because these
726. two guys were so sincere and they put their whole i think they put all their money into it and
727. they're planning on building and selling 40 of them for a half million dollars each so okay what
728. it is it's like if you imagine a 32 ford roadster right very popular hot rod nothing like that it's
729. stretched and widened the body is carbon fiber there's a huge cross piece joining the front of
730. the car to the wheels it's uh they said it was two meters wide which is about six and a half feet
731. wide you get into this thing and you kind of sink down into the seat it's all you don't quite
732. disappear, but you're down in there. And like, I have this long torso and I'm still down in there
733. in this seat. The good thing that I liked about it, it had a Ford Coyote engine in it. So that
734. thing makes a whole bunch of power. I was, I was happy, you know, anything with a Coyote V8 is
735. going to be fun to drive, I think. So it was, it was, it was indeed that, that in this particular
736. application, they're getting 480 horsepower out of it, 369 pound feet of torque in this car,
737. which is very light. I'm looking to try and find the weight, but I don't have the weight of it.
738. It's a carbon fiber body and a very efficient tubular steel chassis. They put a lot of
739. engineering into it. It's a very stiff chassis. Now, if you've ever driven a real Ford Roadster,
740. a 32 Ford Roadster, or even if you've driven a Plymouth Prowler, you'll know that those things
741. don have a lot of torsional rigidity This thing does So it got torsional rigidity it got power it got torque it got very smooth carbon fiber surfaces but I just don understand why they chose this car out of all the great classic cars that they could have
742. Wow. Really interesting. I am seeing the photos of it now.

744. yeah i and i feel bad you know i'm not really bashing it but i i just don't get it man i'm
745. definitely seeing prowler uh in this you're seeing prowler i didn't see oh yeah oh yeah
746. oh maybe prowler with the uh the funky front bumpers and the rear and then of course what
747. do we think about these headlights i'm seeing larry the cable guy headlights here okay all

769. is maybe fewer than are hosting the show.
770. if car were here maybe it'd be different if only the three of us can do that i i can't do it and
771. rest in peace my father who taught me how to do that god bless him god and so um yeah and the
772. clutch the clutch itself of course it's a it's a manual it's a tremec five-speed manual which is
773. that's fun it's good to shift your own car especially your own uh funky car like this one
774. and I liked doing the shifting,
775. but the clutch was a really long pedal
776. and then it engaged way up at the top of pedal travel.
777. And I don't know why it was set up like that.
778. They said, well, we can change that.
779. We can change that.
780. That's just an adjustment.
781. And okay, well, why didn't you adjust it the right way?
782. So anyway, but I want to thank them for letting me drive it.
783. And I hope that when they do another cool car,
