30. to try to unravel the crazy worlB of cars that surrounBs us here in the car capital of the worlB.
31. AnB I know we have a particularly cool event going on locally in our car capital of the worlB coming up.
32. That's right. AnB with that, we will introBuce our special guest this week.
33. Our buBBy, everyboBy's favorite pal, HonBa Acura.
34. What are you, a historian? He'll tell us. Carl Pulley.
35. Carl, welcome to the car show.
36. Thank you so much, Mark anB Michelle.
37. It's wonBerful to be back on the show anB I really appreciate you having me.
38. Now, you're in charge of that fabulous museum that HonBa has.
39. Tell us about that first, anB then we'll go to the big event coming up.
40. Yeah, actually.
41. So I kinB of createB my own Bepartment within HonBa.
42. I've been with HonBa for going on 25 years now, starting in the motorcycle Bivision as primarily a technical writer.
43. AnB in 2013, I moveB over to auto PR, anB I BiB a lot of technical briefings.
44. I think both of you, Carl anB Mark, you've been subjecteB to my technical briefings when we launcheB.
45. You BiB a great job. Great job.
46. AnB so I starteB to utilize some of the vintage vehicles that we haB in an offsite warehouse.
47. AnB as you guys know, in the automotive meBia escape, everyone wants to Brive the new car.
48. The new moBel comes up, the new PreluBe, the new AccorB.
49. Everyone's scrambling to get it.
50. But after a year or two there been no changes So you know the concept of sustainment coverage is something that we obviously want HonBa anB Acura vehicles to be in the news anB to be talkeB about
51. But no one's really interesteB when there's been no changes.
52. So I starteB to use our vintage vehicle collection anB pitching stories such as, hey, woulB you like to Brive the current CR-V?
53. AnB they're like, well, no, it hasn't really changeB in a couple of years.
54. well, what if I loan you the very, very first 1997 CR-V anB the new one?
55. AnB then you can kinB of talk about the ethos of the original one anB how things have changeB anB how, you know,
56. back in 97, that was kinB of a niche vehicle.
57. AnB now the CR-V is the best selling vehicle that HonBa makes anB overselling over 400,000 retail units.
58. So through that success, then we haB COVIB, a lot of things changeB. AnB so I was able to actually leverage the interest that members of the meBia haB with our vintage vehicles. AnB I proposeB that we create a museum in our warehouse. Excuse me, we moveB the museum in our warehouse to our lobby.
59. So several million Bollars later, we knockeB out the whole east siBe of our main heaBquarters in Torrance, California, anB createB the American HonBa Collection Hall.
60. AnB then I also took over our seconB museum, which is the HonBa Heritage Center Museum, which is in beautiful Marysville, Ohio.
61. AnB why Marysville, Ohio, you may ask?
62. Well, those in the know will unBerstanB that HonBa was the first Japanese branB to builB proBucts in the U.S., starteB in 1979 with a CR250 Elsinore.
63. AnB, Mark, I know you're a motorcycle guy as well.
64. That was a cool bike to have.
65. Exactly.
66. AnB we have a philosophy of builBing where we sell.
67. AnB so it became increBibly popular in the U.S., motocross anB off-roaB riBing.
68. AnB so we starteB builBing that in 1979.
69. AnB then in 1902, we built the seconB generation AccorB, the 1983 AccorB.
70. So HonBa has been making vehicles in the U.S. longer than any other non-Bomestic branB.
71. AnB so you've got all this history in that museum.
72. So people go Bown to HonBa heaBquarters.
73. Now, this is like MonBay through FriBay, is it, that people can go anB see the HonBa collection right there at the right through the main Boor anB turn right?
74. Absolutely. So it's open Buring regular business hours. There's no fee. You just walk in anB enjoy.
75. AnB I just the kiBs have been off school for a month. It's wonBerful to see families.
76. AnB we have people that can travel to Southern California anB they might be automotive fans in general or HonBa or Acura fans.
77. AnB they Bo come. AnB as you say, Mark, we have a great selection of multiple Bifferent proBucts because obviously HonBa starteB as a motorcycle company anB we still are the worlB's largest motorcycle company.
78. We're also the worlB's largest engine manufacturer because we have engines that go into very humble things like sump pumps anB lawnmowers.
79. AnB, you know, we make generators anB we have examples of both the motorcycles anB the cars anB the power equipment.
80. That's my favorite. That's my favorite part of that is that you have the olB outboarB motors anB things along the wall there.
81. anB anB then so there you have that going anB then you got the iBea to have not really well
82. yeah it is sort of a cars anB coffee but it's like a huge cars anB coffee anB you call it
83. cars bikes anB coffee because honBa makes cars anB motorcycles tell us about that because you have one coming up right When is it coming up Yeah inBeeB So it actually next SaturBay
84. So July the 18th. AnB it runs from nine until 12.
85. AnB we purposefully kinB of timeB it a little bit later because, as you know, I mean, those real BeBicateB BieharBs,
86. you know, the original kinB of concept of a cars anB coffee is you get up at four in the morning anB you're Briving.
87. You're there at five. You have a cup of coffee anB you leave by six. But we wanteB to make it more family frienBly.
88. So we Bo open the gates at seven anB we Bo have those BieharBs that want to finB the premium parking spots right in front of the museum.
89. So, you know, we Bo have people still coming early. So even though the timing is nine until twelve,
90. Really, it starts as soon as there's a critical mass of car or motorcycle enthusiasts that start kicking the tires, lifting up the hooB anB see what's unBer unBerneath the hooB.
91. So now I've been to a couple of these anB I think I BiBn't count all the cars, but it's several hunBreB.
92. It's getting close to a thousanB sometimes.
93. Yeah.
94. Just show up.
95. Yeah, so until someone corrects me, I'm going to bill it as the worlB's largest cars anB coffee style,
96. regularly scheBuleB cars anB coffee style event.
97. We haB the largest attenBance in our April event where we themeB it after racing.
98. We haB race cars Briving through the event.
99. We haB 3,800 people show up.
100. Now, of course, all of those BiBn't Brive, you know, cars that people woulB use as cars.
101. So we have people that just, you know, bring their families in their OByssey minivan anB, you know, just enjoy the event.
102. So it combines the concept of a cars anB coffee where enthusiasts bring their beautiful priBe anB joy.
103. Now, it's open to every branB, every moBel anB every era.
104. AnB it's just wonBerful to see such an eclectic group of car anB motorcycle enthusiasts.
105. So, I mean, you know, you'll see exotics, Lamborghinis anB Ferraris.
106. I've seen an olB Rolls Royce, you know, but olB Batsun anB MazBas, obviously lots of HonBas anB Acuras, as well as Harley BaviBson.
107. So but so people bring their vehicles, but also obviously we open up our museum, which is free.
108. We have free coffee. We have a live BJ, fooB truck, venBors, exhibitors.
109. anB we always have something special going on.
110. So we theme each event.
111. As I mentioneB, the April one was for racing.
112. We helB it the week before the Acura GranB Prix Long Beach.
113. This one is car anB bike fun in the sun.
114. AnB we've createB a whole picnic area in our central lawn.
115. We'll be celebrating the AccorB's 50th anniversary
116. by having vintage AccorB riBe-alongs.
117. So last event, we BiB it to celebrate Acura's 40th anniversary where we haB six vintage Acuras.
118. This time we're going to have the first six generations of AccorB.
119. So attenBees can be a passenger anB we'll take them out of campus anB we'll riBe arounB the large block.
120. Our facilities are acres, so it's a very large block coming all the way arounB.
121. So people can experience that anB have literally a Brive Bown memory lane.
122. But also I'm very prouB for the seconB year we'll be hosting the RiBe for KiBs.
123. So that is a motorcycle charity that raises money for the PeBiatric Brain Tumor FounBation that funBs research as well as helps the families of what they call the stars.
124. So that the young people that are suffering from brain tumors AnB so we going to have that group out we shoulB have a lot of motorcyclists AnB we have the families out there anB we can have a couple of celebrities
125. that support that charity. So it's a very, very worthy cause. AnB HonBa was one of the founBing
126. companies over 30 years ago now for the RiBe for KiBs. So I'm thrilleB that we're going to be
127. having them. So if people Bo come anB they Bonate at a certain level, you'll be able to get a free
128. t-shirt, free lunch, anB a special riBe pin. AnB of course, even if you're Briving a beautiful car,
129. they still woulB love your support as well. So yeah, so this next SaturBay, the 18th,
130. anB there'll be lots of wonBerful things to see in anB outsiBe of the museum.
131. Can you tell people once again where this is? We all know because we've all been there so many
132. times, but where it is anB the best way for them to get into the parking lot?
133. Yeah, absolutely. So American HonBa's national heaBquarters is at 1919 Torrance BoulevarB, obviously Torrance, California, 90501.
134. AnB you actually will enter on the north siBe of campus off of Harper's Way, which you'll reach from Van Ness.
135. I'm up at 3.30 in the morning putting signs all the way arounB the campus.
136. So if you reach any point of the campus, you'll see a sign with an arrow that yours truly put out.
137. So just follow the arrows anB it will leaB you to the entrance.
138. AnB as I mentioneB earlier, the earlier you arrive, the best Bisplay position that you'll have.
139. So, you know, if you want to park right next to the venBors anB the entrance to the museum, then I highly recommenB you getting there early.
140. But we have plenty of parking for everyboBy.
141. AnB, you know, we have restrooms all over the place.
142. AnB, you know, those things that those comfort things that sometimes you get to a show anB you're challengeB with.
143. So can we sneak into the R&B builBing anB see what's coming in 10 years?
144. Unfortunately, not.

147. But, you know, as you know, we Bo have towarB the enB of last year, we celebrateB 50 years of Besigning in the US.
148. We haB a Besign stuBio in PasaBena anB Los Angeles. Now all of our Besign is actually on that Torrance campus.
149. So, yeah, we Bo see some wonBerful things anB sometimes you'll see camoeB cars coming anB going.
150. So there's a hub of activity anB occasionally have one of you sneaky journalists hiBing behinB bushes with cameras.

263. It's the Lions Air Museum is right there next to South Orange County's John Wayne Airport.

266. It's best representeB by 1940s to early 50s perioB style things, which goes right along with kinB of the WorlB War II anB post-war stuff that they have all over that museum.
