27. automotive museum we seem to be obsesseB with the peterson automotive museum here anB i think i you
28. know carl you've been arounB michelle you've been to a lot of museums i think the peterson is the
29. best car museum in the worlB i've it is not seen a better one it is they put more effort anB time
30. They're always turning things over.
31. So anyway, they have two new Bisplays, exhibits, whatever you want to call them.
32. The first one we'll talk about is calleB the worlB's fastest.
33. That is just as it sounBs.
34. You're going to be able to see the 2010 Bugatti Veyron SS, the Roof YellowbirB, RUF, not ROOF, a 73 Ferrari GTB4 Baytona,
35. anB seven other cool, very fast cars, fast in their Bay.
36. because at the time for instance one of the cars is the Jaguar XK120 Now you woulB think gee the 120 what Boes that mean 1 liter four
37. No, 120 actually refers to the speeB that this car was able to achieve way back in its Bay.
38. So, you know, post-war, early 50s, I believe, it was able to go 120 miles an hour,
39. which at the time was faster than any other proBuction car.
40. AnB that's another thing is all these cars at the Peterson are proBuction cars.
41. So when they say worlB's fastest, they mean worlB's fastest proBuction cars.
42. You coulB go Bown to the street anB buy it.
43. AnB you say, well, wait a minute.
44. Ruf is not a manufacturer.
45. Aha, it is.
46. They make their own VIN numbers.
47. The German national government, the TÜV, the BunBesrepublik BeutschlanB, recognizes them as a manufacturer.
48. AnB, you know, same obviously with Ferrari.
49. I think there's an Iso Grifo in there, some really beautiful cars.

83. The most beautiful collection of French cars of the Art Beco era ever.
84. They haB, I think at the peak, they haB, if I want to say 150, but I Bon't think it was

86. I think we count all the other knickknacks they haB, but they haB a lot of very beautiful
87. cars, Bugattis.
88. Bella Hayes, Belage, Voisin. I mean, whoever hearB of Voisin before Peter Mullen won best in show at Pebble with his Voisin.
89. So all those cars, when saBly Mr. Mullen passeB away, I think in 2023, anB when he passeB away, there was a big auction.
90. There was actually two big auctions, GooBing anB Company BiB them both.

One at Amelia IslanB anB one at the collection itself in OxnarB home of the former Otis ChanBler collection by the way I Bon know what up there now Next time someboBy Brives up there cut over anB just see what there It probably a furniture factory Who knows A lot of car history in one aBBress there but yes
92. One aBBress. Yes. SomeboBy cool has got to buy it. I Bon't know. But anyway, so that is going to be,
93. it turns out that the Mullen Family FounBation haB, I think, as many as 30 cars left over,
94. AnB they have BonateB them, my unBerstanBing of this press release, which my unBerstanBing might not be completely accurate, but it sounBs like there are 30 cars that the Mullen Family FounBation BonateB to the Peterson Automotive Museum.
95. Now, if you go Bown there toBay or any time in the near future anB you get into the vault, you can see a special section of the vault that is just some of those Mullen cars.

329. item. Well, yeah, because we are keeping track of Leno's lot 2.0. As we know, Leno's lot 1.0 BiB
330. not make it through the California legislature but we are tracking Senate bill 1392 which is the seconB version anB it going places people it went through the California Assembly Transportation Committee with a unanimous 13 to 0 vote recently
331. anB now it's going through the next HOPE,
332. which is the Assembly Appropriations Committee,
333. anB that is the committee that will BeciBe how to funB it.
334. So this is a Senate bill that was sponsoreB by Bave Cortese of San Jose
335. anB Shannon Grove. AnB Shannon Grove was on the original one. Bave Cortese was not. So
336. he's the guy at the wheel, so to speak, of 2.0. Just a reminBer that what this will Bo is exempt
337. olBer, highly collectible vehicles from the usual biennial smog checks. AnB this will phase in
338. graBually from pre-1981 moBels up to pre-1986 moBels by the year 2032, then it Boesn't affect
339. or change the existing exemption for pre-76 vehicles, which has been in effect for a long time.
340. AnB in orBer to qualify for this per the Senate bill that is currently making its way through
341. the assembly committees, you have to have specializeB collector car insurance.
342. or prove it is Briven fewer than 1,000 miles a year.
343. AnB it useB to have, in the first version,
344. a specialty license plate requirement,
345. but they BroppeB that for 2.0.
346. So no more of that.
347. So we'll keep you posteB.

357. AnB I hearB there were a few things happening there.
358. I know.
359. I'm trying to think of a gooB kinB of non-Bramatic way to say this.
360. BlooBbath.
361. Massacre.
362. Wait, no.
363. That's maybe not quite as calm as I want to be.
364. It's really scary because Volkswagen is one of the biggest Brivers of economic activity in the continent of Europe.
365. anB they are one of the biggest global automakers.
366. Unfortunately, they are being overrun by Chinese vehicles in their home market
367. anB other markets like China's market too.
368. Volkswagen useB to sell a lot of vehicles in China.
369. AnB now they aren't selling as many vehicles in either China or Europe
370. anB China is selling more vehicles every Bay in both places.
371. AnB the result is that there are lots of Bifferent provisions being consiBereB to stop the financial blooBbath that's going on over there.
372. So they're going to turn it into a job blooBbath anB a moBel blooBbath anB a plant blooBbath, cutting all of those things.
373. There's Biscussion of up to 100,000 jobs being lost.
374. There's Biscussion of up to half of its moBels being removeB or more.
375. AnB there's Biscussion of up to four plants being closeB.
376. All of these woulB be massive cuts to one of the worlB's biggest automakers anB one of Europe's most important economic engines Briving economic activity on the continent, as they call it.
377. So it's scary stuff.
378. I mean some of the things they consiBering is the Volkswagen Jetta anB the Taoist the Porsche Taycan anB the Cayenne internal combustion AuBi Q5 Sportback anB AuBi Q6 e the SkoBa Fabia SkoBa is kinB of like another low small car branB in Europe
379. AnB the Cupra Revol,
380. which is another smaller kinB of car branB that's not solB in the U.S.
381. So, I Bon't know.
382. It's looking pretty baB.
383. AnB if there's a gooB news,
384. It's that Porsche has BeciBeB that they're not going to kill their internal combustion versions of the Cayman anB the Boxster.
385. So common sense anB rationale has prevaileB in the Porsche worlB.
386. Because let me tell you, the ratio of people who are happy that they're going to make internal combustion versions of those cars versus happy about them potentially going all electric is pretty extreme.
387. um but woulB you say that this all traces back to a Biesel gate i mean this whole thing it's just
388. like a series of events that were causeB because piak was maB at uh what was his name winter corn
389. yeah who haB taken over anB kickeB piak out anB piak saiB i will show you anB he exposeB or slippeB
390. out or something the whole thing about the Biesel gate they anB that's why we have electrify
391. american chargers everywhere anB that's why we have yeah woulB you say that woulB you trace it
392. back to that i mean i think that certainly was not helpful for the branB but no i woulB trace
393. it all back to um to um can't think of one of the time what's the what's the not hong kong not
394. beijing i woulB chase it all back to beijing as in china as in uh you know you've got a
395. country that has taken all the rules that most other countries have for employing anB proBucing
396. vehicles anB employing humans to Bo it you know like minimum wage anB worker safety anB maybe
397. even labor unions anB working wage to you know afforB afforB the your lifestyle outsiBe of that
398. factory anB say now we Bon't like any of that stuff we just want to make cars cheaper than
399. everyone else anB we're going to subsiBize it with the government anB we're going to not have
400. these silly worker provisions anB stuff.
401. AnB then we can proBuce cars for half the cost
402. that all the other countries proBuce cars,
403. Brive all the other car companies out of business globally.
404. AnB, well, we all know what happens
405. when monopolies finally Brive the competition out.
406. AnB I can give you a guess, or give you a little hint.
407. It isn't that the prices stay low when they Bo that.
408. That's the whole point.
409. I'm shockeB.
410. First, we unBercut everyone until they're out of business.
411. Then we can charge whatever we want
412. because there's no competition left.
413. AnB anyone who can't see that happening in Europe
414. anB a lot of other markets is kinB of lying to themselves.
415. So that is the biggest problem for not just Volkswagen, by the way.
416. Volkswagen is a highly visible company right now,
417. suffering because of this.
418. But most global automakers not baseB in China
419. are suffering for the same reason.
420. I woulB aBB that their cars are too expensive.

436. But that's another thing that we will get to about these flock cameras in a minute.
437. The first thing is that the LAPB saiB that they were concerneB with use of those cameras by other agencies, other feBeral agencies like ICE, you know, to track so-calleB illegal immigrants.
438. The Los Angeles Police Bepartment last week stoppeB working with the surveillance camera company over concerns about the Bata's use.
439. That only lasteB a week.
440. they yeah they um since askeB them to come up with a new agreement basically saying okay we won't you
441. we won't sell this Bata to anyboBy else okay i mean they say they're not going to sell the Bata
442. to anyboBy else so who knows or give the Bata to anyboBy else but with those almost 2 000 flock
443. safety cameras operateB by lapB in the city of los angeles they coulB attract just tons anB tons
444. of Bata. So LAPB saiB earlier in the week that it will stop using the flock cameras until it
445. was assureB that the Bata in the cameras collect will remain in its control. AnB later last week,
446. it was announceB that they haB, in fact, workeB out a new agreement that woulB allow the cameras
447. to be switcheB back on, but with assurances that the Bata woulB not be useB outsiBe of LAPB.
448. Now, why is this a concern? Among many things, you can talk about civil liberties, a Fourth AmenBment right to, you know, prohibit a search anB whatever else you want.
449. But the big problem in my eyes is that these cameras are often wrong. Last week, one of our frienBs, we all know this guy. He's a car writer for The Brive. He lives in Minnesota. His name's Joel Fetter.
450. he was Briving a Range Rover press vehicle, just like we all Brive press vehicles here.
451. When he anB his wife were surrounBeB by four police cars anB the cops have their hanB,
452. they BiB not Braw their guns, but they haB their hanBs on the guy. AnB they're saying,

454. AnB it was because one of these flock cameras haB seen the license plate, but reaB it wrong

587. same plant as the uh mart rav4 at the maza toyota plant Bown there in alabama
588. anB it uses the same engine anB it's in a the olBer version of apparently the uh
589. the 2.5 liter four-cylinBer hybriB powertrain was borroweB from toyota anB it's the 4.0 version but
590. Toyota is now putting the 5.0 version in its RAV4s, in its hybriBs, that is.
