18. But last weekend, Saturday, there was a rally in Los Angeles
19. because, as you know, there's madness going on around the world.
20. Madness meaning people are being attacked for their views
21. or supporting sovereign people in sovereign states.

26. first go to the rally that took place in Los
27. Angeles and he'll speak
28. on that also the rally was in support
29. of Cuba of course the United States
30. has been attacking Cuba
31. for decades
32. when I say decades I literally mean decades
33. since they had their independence
34. so and for what
35. reason so this is what I don't
36. understand. They want to attack everybody. Why are they attacking everybody? They're attacking
37. Russia. They're attacking Iran. They're attacking
38. Cuba. They're attacking the All African People's Socialist Party.
39. Not internationally and domestically. They attack people.
40. But why? That's the question we're going to pose to our
41. guests a little later on the show. So have patience with us as
42. we first go to the rally and listen to what the people
43. were saying about Cuba.
44. This was a rally, like I said,
45. took place in Los Angeles last Saturday.
46. Here we go.
47. My name is Acia.
48. I'm with the International League of People Struggle.
49. And I'm here as an anti-imperialist organizer
50. to defend Cuban sovereignty,
51. to stand in solidarity with the Cuban people
52. in their just and righteous struggle
53. for national independence, national liberation,
54. the struggle for socialism and defending socialism from US imperialism and US war The Cuban people have a right to determine their own fate and live in peace and freedom from U war U aggression U attack
55. The U.S. approaching and escalating threats against Cuba are something that the whole international community should be outraged by and should come together in unity to oppose.
56. So yeah, here to express my solidarity and unity in the shared struggle against U.S. imperialism.
57. not even know what it means. But anyway, let's continue.
58. My name is Barbara Aquila. I'm with Black Lives Matter's Grassroots and the Institute of the Black
59. World. I just returned from Cuba as a part of a delegation of 25 African Americans who went there
60. for a fact-finding trip to see what's really going on with the people and to find out what we could
61. do in solidarity to support the people there. And so I'm here to continue that solidarity
62. on this side. And when we were there last Saturday, as we were leaving, they asked us
63. to do two things. Come back and tell the truth about what's really happening to the people
64. of Cuba. They're being purposely and deliberately starved. Secondly, that they simply want to
65. be respected, their sovereignty to be respected and allowed to breathe. And so that's why
66. I'm here I want to make sure that we convey the message that the Cuban people
67. want their right to sovereignty and their right to live and breathe.
68. The right to sovereignty, the right to live and breathe. Breathe, that seems to be a
69. problem with the United States. The sovereignty. A little later in the program we're going to
70. talk about what's going on the sovereignty of the Uhuru movement and
71. And they're attempting just to be self-sufficient, but getting attacked for no reason.
72. Hi, good afternoon. My name is Paul Roberson. I'm from Los Angeles, California.
73. I'm here with the U.S. and Cuba committee.
74. I'm here today to show solidarity with the Cuban people.
75. We are recently with the Cuba for May Day.
76. We saw firsthand the effects of the unlawful and illegal blockade in U.S. foreign policy.
77. So we're here today to demand that this government not invade, not further hurt, not further discriminate and destroy this island that's simply 90 miles away.
78. We want peace. We want to change the policy. And we want to enter the illegal embargo.
79. Everyone, thank you so much for showing up today.
80. And he mentioned that they want to demand. My thing, there's a quote, I think, by Frederick Douglass.
81. He says power concedes nothing without demand. I said I have to reframe that.
82. because if you have no power, demand means nothing.
83. You have to have power and then demands get solved.
84. But here we go.
85. So that we could demonstrate to the world that Cuba is in our hearts
86. and that we are in solidarity with their struggles
87. and that we think that their struggles,
88. especially when we think about the U.S. blockade
89. and the ways that they have been denied,
90. not only the opportunity to get the resources that they need
91. so that they can fully self-determine,
92. but we're also here to protest the fact that the rest of the world
93. is being denied All the amazing resources the intellectual the humanitarian resources that Cuba has provided the entire world since its revolution I am here today as a friend of Cuba as a friend of Iran as a friend of Palestine as a friend of Lebanon
94. as a friend of all black, brown, poor, and oppressed people globally
95. who see in the Cuban struggles their own struggles,
96. who have directly benefited from the love and solidarity that Cuba has shown.
97. I'm also here as representative of the health professional community,
98. as somebody who's taken my students to Cuba for over a decade,
99. and had the opportunity to learn about their health model,
100. to see what it means when you don't think that people are disposable.
101. Instead, you believe that you can invest in them
102. and create and imagine life-affirming systems
103. instead of systems that are based on profit and exploitation.
104. And so when Mark asked me to step in and co-chair,
105. I said I would do so with a very eager heart
106. because any ways that we can uplift Cuba,
107. any ways that we can show them that we stand with them
108. is a way that we not only honor our own humanity,
109. but I promise you we benefit ourselves.

111. And we stand in complete solidarity with the people of Cuba,
112. with the organizations and activists that are gathered here today.

115. That took place last Saturday in Los Angeles.
116. Those are solidarity statements.
117. supporting Cuba.
118. And, oh boy, we're in a mess.
119. I think the war has started, escalated, the war in Iran.
120. But I'm so happy to join us now, our special guest.
121. He's been on before, and hopefully he'll be on again and again and again.

123. African People's Socialist Party and the Uhuru Movement.

131. It's good to listen to all of the solidarity that's being expressed, not only to Cuba,
132. but to colonize people around the world for the activists that you've just brought on

137. A lot of people are doing something and they're trying to spread the information.

148. Anyway, a big mess.
149. But I want to start out by talking to Brother O'Malley Sheteli.
150. If you didn't know, several years ago, about four years exactly, his facility was attacked.
151. I mean, vehemently attacked with tanks.
152. And brother, tell us briefly what happened.
153. Well, thank you very much.
154. It's really important.
155. It's connected to this whole discussion we're having about colonialism.
156. On July 29 2022 at 5 o pre here in St Louis Missouri my home the home that I share with my wife Comrade Deputy Chair Ona Zinaya Shetella and the homes and offices of other comrades here
157. in St. Louis, and our spaces, offices, our radio station in St. Petersburg, Florida.
158. My home in St. Petersburg, which is where I came from, was also attacked by scores of FBI agents
159. who, as you mentioned, used armored vehicles, flashbang grenades, used battering rams, knocked down doors, broke windows,
160. and did something like $40,000 worth of damage in terms of destruction and materials that they stole.
161. Was that ever, were you ever compensated for that?
162. We, no, we were never compensated.
163. All right, keep going.
164. See, we were ordered in the middle of, like I said, it was pre-dawn here in St. Louis, and we were ordered by some amplified voice system to come out with our hands up and our hands empty.
165. And so I asked my wife to allow me to go first so that she could get in touch with other comrades, let them know we were being raided.
166. They said, this is the FBI. So I walked down the stairs. And when I got to the and opened the door way, I was greeted by these laser dots all over my chest from automatic weapons.
167. And I saw the tank in front of my house. I saw these people in military gear and explosions were going on.
168. They had blocked off the streets so that people couldn't get to us, get to the place and couldn't leave without going through FBI.
169. They did the same thing in St. Petersburg, Florida.
170. So this assault happened.
171. And then when we got downstairs, they immediately zip tied me.
172. I used zip ties behind my back.
173. My wife, when she gets downstairs because she couldn't reach anybody because they had jammed our phones.
174. She's almost hit in the face by a drone that goes up the stairs.
175. The drone literally came inside the house?
176. Oh, yes.
177. Oh, yes.
178. And up the stairs.
179. Yeah.
180. And so they put handcuffs on her, handcuffed her behind her back.
181. And then, so I'm asking, what's going on?
182. What is this about?
183. And they said that this is going to be news tomorrow, this morning, later this morning,
184. because there's going to be an indictment of a Russian national.
185. And your name is in the indictment.
186. and this is a search warrant that we are using.
187. We have a search warrant for your place.
188. So I said, well, let me see the search warrant.
189. Let me see the indictment.
190. And so they didn't have the search warrant,
191. but they said it was somewhere among the group,
192. and they let me see it later.
193. And so they made this assault.
194. As I said, they did the same thing.
195. And what was really interesting because, you know,
196. our movement is accustomed to being attacked like this.
197. I mean, you know, you remember 1969, if you weren't there, you're a pretty young guy.
198. You may have heard of the attack on the Black Panther, the Panther 21 and what have you, which happened.
199. And they came in similar fashion with scores of charges that they made against him for conspiracy, etc.
200. So we are accustomed to this kind of thing happening to us.
201. But we were surprised that it did happen now.
202. They took nine months before they even charged us,
203. indicted us with anything after this incident.
204. attack. And then they
205. indicted us for functioning as agents of a
206. foreign government. Agents as a foreign government? Of a foreign government,
207. which was Russia. Oh my goodness, all that that they did, attacking
208. your house, I thought you murdered several people or something.
209. Well, the thing is, they didn't attack Russia.
210. You know, they attacked, you know, one of the poorest communities
211. here in St. Louis on Redbud Avenue.
212. And so they attacked us there.
213. And they said that we were also,
214. we were agents without notifying the Attorney General
215. that we were working for a foreign government
216. and that we were conspiring to work for a foreign government.
217. So did you show them your credentials
218. that show that you were working for Russia?
219. Well, the thing is that the combination of the charges,
220. The two charges carried with them 15-year sentences, 10 years for being a so-called agent and five years for conspiring to be an agent.
221. So 15-year sentences we were faced with.
222. We were also charged, we were faced with the possibility of a $500,000 fine, a $250,000 fine for each of the two charges.
223. So they attacked us. They attacked members of our solidarity movement that lives in, generally speaking, an office in the south side of St. Louis, which is a white community mostly.
224. And they raided them. They held them at gunpoint, handcuffed, that kind of thing.
225. They used battering rams, knocked down doors, a similar thing here, which is extraordinarily unusual because they've never had to do that in the past.
226. They could just attack us and our movements were isolated from anything else.
227. And we had the fact that they had to go to the white community was a statement of how we had gone,
228. be broken out of the circle, this encirclement they had imposed on the black liberation movement in the past.
229. And so that's what we did.
230. Don't don't. I don't want you to go back.
231. What you said was really interesting.
232. I want you to really explain.
233. They broke out of that circle of just entrapping the black community.
234. We did, yeah.
235. Right.
236. So you had allies in the white community.
237. But more than allies, because the thing is that, you know, when they killed Malcolm X,
238. you didn't see anything coming from the white left, anything proclaiming to be upset.
239. You didn't even see much of anything coming when they killed King.
240. When they killed more than 30 members of the Black Panther Party in 1968 alone,
241. You didn't see anything coming from the white communities.
242. So this instance, they had to go to the white communities.
243. They had to go to their own communities to attack our movement.
244. This is the Black Liberation Movement inside the white community.
245. So these were not allies.
246. These were actually components of our overall movement.
247. You see?
248. Yes.
249. And this was a really important difference in what they've had to do in the past.
250. And so and it was extraordinary because it brought white people out in the white community asking what the hell is going on, saying that we know these people in the white community is a big sign up in front of our office in the white community that talks about unity through reparation, saying that this is what we stand for.
251. And the fact is that we have in white communities more than 130 cities in this country.
252. There are white people who are working under our leadership demanding reparations and also taking the struggle of African people for black power into white communities So this is an amazing thing Many people don understand because they don see black people in some instances talking about reparations
253. Why this change in polling for support for reparations?
254. Partially it's because of what we're doing in the white communities through this black power and white face that's in their own communities.
255. so you're doing an education
256. process
257. which is what we really need
258. because a lot of people don't know
259. the reason a lot of this stuff is going on is because of
260. miseducation
261. miseducation and propaganda and just blatant
262. lies
263. just blatant lies
264. our president Pinocchio
265. is probably the epitome of lying
266. with a straight face
267. just lies, lies, lies
268. so that trickles down
269. into, doesn't trickle down
270. It was a waterfall. It falls down into the black community. You know, you're this, you're that. And I noticed that they always try to demonize those folks who they attack. You know, we'll get into that a little later.
271. But so you went to court. I think two of the three charges were overturned, but then one was not.
272. So you're going to have an appeal with what happened to fight those charges, appeal of those charges.
273. The oral arguments start on July 22nd.
274. And because just talk about that for a second. We'll keep moving on.
275. Well, the trial was fantastic. They said it was going to be a month-long trial. It lasted something like eight days when you count the weekends. And we filled the courtroom. They had to get extra spaces for the court because there were people there from all around the country.
276. Plus, we had established a fantastic outreach through our social media, through our media campaigns, etc.
277. We were broadcasting every day.
278. In fact, some of the actual corporate media were having to use our information from the courthouse.
279. We had runners coming back and forth from the court bringing information.
280. We had people inside the courtroom who were sketch artists, who were actually sketching what was going on.
281. In fact, the judge complained that we made his nose look too big.
282. And speaking of Pinocchio.
283. Nose around the world, man.
284. But I do want to say that because you did talk about President Pinocchio, that this was Biden administration that attacked us.
285. These were Democrats.
286. These were the Democrats who initiated the whole Russia, Russia, Russia, Russia thing in modern history.
287. So I just wanted to say that was the case.
288. And so they convicted us.
289. They could not convict us.
290. even though they kicked off the only African who was to be a juror, they kicked her off,
291. but they could not convict us on this thing of being a Russian agent. So we beat that completely,
292. which meant that it was clear that the only ones that we were working for was Black people.
293. And then the second thing I think is important is that they convicted us for thinking of being
294. a Russian agent, that conspiracy, which didn't require any action on our part. Just we planned
295. to, we thought about it. We were going to excel. It's a thought crime that they convicted us for.
296. And that's the thing. We're going to Atlanta for July 22nd. We're calling on everybody to come to
297. Atlanta where this oral arguments, they granted us oral arguments, which was a good sign. Usually
298. you don get an oral argument So unless there something special about the case So we go before three judges on July 22nd in Atlanta and we calling on people to join us there You listening to Cut to the Chase My name is Sly Rivers aka Sylvester Rivers

303. who I guess will be there, part of those oral arguments, who were in that space where white
304. folks are. So people are understanding and learning that this is a fight against
305. solidarity, people's sovereignty
306. and sovereignty rather than solidarity. But we should be in
307. solidarity with each other. And solidarity too. We have an extraordinary battery of
308. lawyers. We have five different lawyers.
309. So it was a group defense. Though each of us had
310. lawyers specifically assigned to us.
311. it's an interesting group because there was a Jewish lawyer,
312. there was a Muslim lawyer.
313. Oh my God, they're banned.
314. Well, the Jewish one's not, but the Muslims, he was the,
315. I'm sorry, go ahead.
316. Go ahead, go ahead.
317. I was just saying, when Pinocchio, it was,
318. it's amazing when Pinocchio first came to office in 2016,
319. the first thing he did was a Muslim, how can you, Muslim banned?
320. How can you ban a whole religion?
321. That's idiotic. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to digress. Go ahead.
322. Yeah. And you're probably familiar with the father of one of our lawyers, Naeem Akbar.
323. You may know. Oh, yes. Naeem Akbar. He wrote the book.
324. His son. His son was one of our lawyers. Oh, wow.
325. That was the Muslim that we were talking about who was there.
326. And we had a lawyer. Well, anyway, we we we we declared that even tick inditing us was a violation of American free speech as is characterized.
327. And but we understood that it was about more than just free speech.
328. It was about anti-colonial free speech because there were white people who had done the same things.
329. who have been, I went to Russia in 1915.
330. There were other white people who were there.
331. We were the only Africans who were there.
332. So the majority of the people who were there
333. from the United States were white people.
334. And so, but we were the ones who were charged.
335. And I was listening to the person who spoke
336. at the LA demonstration that you're talking about
337. and how you have spoken that the attacks
338. on people who support Palestine, the attacks on people who support Cuba, the attacks on
339. people who support Iran, the attacks on people who support Venezuela, all of these are colonized
340. peoples and countries that we are talking about.
341. This is an assault on the existing political and economic configuration of the world that
342. we were born into, which is a colonial mode of production.
343. That's what they don't want us to be able to talk about.
344. They don't want us as colonized peoples to be able to exercise any kind of agency on
345. our own.
346. So they have to create this nonsense that the Russians are the ones who taught us about our own oppression That the Russians are the ones who are responsible for the opposition to genocide When you know African people did this in 1948 at the United Nations etc
347. I mean, well, that was the convention against genocide was in 1948.
348. By 1952, Africans had gone there declaring recharge genocide.
349. People can Google that.
350. The whole book was made of it because black people went to the United Nations because of genocide being committed against African people.
351. And so this was the claim that they made.
352. That was the Russians who were responsible for our reparations work.
353. The Russians who are responsible for the economic development that we brought to the north side of St. Louis.
354. It was Russia, Russia, Russia, Russia, they said.
355. But then we had a lawyer, the opening statement.
356. We went into that courtroom, which was remarkable.
357. because before he walked up he told us to be quiet and he walked up and he
358. threw his fist up that's that's that's come at Akbar and he threw his fist up
359. and and he went who do he went who who who who he said you're gonna be here in
360. that word a lot it means Swahili means freedom freedom of speech freedom of
361. assembly freedom of association you know etc etc and then he said you're gonna be
362. hearing this Russia, Russia, Russia, Russia nonsense throughout the thing. So he destroyed
363. that. He went right to it. We weren't running from who we were or who we are. We went right
364. into it, et cetera. And that was part of the basis, the way we took on this whole case.
365. Wow. Yeah, we had a media outlet called Uhuru Communications back in the day.
366. Yeah.
367. So you're telling me I don't have to, when I get up in the morning, I don't have to look
368. under my bed to make sure there's no Russians under there?
369. Well, you know, you may have grown up with having to hide under your desk when you were a child because the Russians were going to drop the bomb any day now.
370. But this is what they count on, this memory that people have of the feared Russians, etc.
371. Communism, Russia, black folks, socialism.
372. It's amazing the propaganda, the lies and how people consume this and believe it.

374. but you have to be afraid
375. but this is the narrative with their media that they put out
376. and control the minds
377. of people
378. so you gave a speech
379. but let's stay on this subject
380. of Russia for a hot second
381. and the war
382. going on in Ukraine

389. So the problem I have, Chairman O'Malley,
390. is that these countries are being demonized.
391. I don't care.
392. They might not be perfect.
393. They might be doing bad things.
394. But to bomb them and kill people,
395. let's start out with like Cuba.
396. We start out with Cuba.
397. To starve the people of Cuba
398. because they want to have their own system of economics is absurd.
399. It's devilish.
400. It's crazy.
401. Then you go on to the proxy war in Ukraine,
402. which to me is a war for white nationalism.
403. And I say that because if we recall after World War II,
404. the Russians helped defeat Nazism.
405. Okay, the Russians helped defeat Nazism.
406. Nothing. Russians crushed Hitler's forces.
407. Right.
408. They've lost 27 million.
409. Yes. And then on this program, we had this one person talking about how the United States hired those German technicians to go and become a part of their colonial efforts.
410. And a lot of those, guess where they went? Ukraine. Ukraine.
411. So Ukraine has a lot of those ex-Soviet.
412. Now, if you don't, if you recall, if you listen to this, cut to the chase every Friday at 8 a.m.
413. When the Soviet Union invaded Russia, a lot of people were getting out.
414. They would not let the black people out.
415. That's right.
416. They would not let them.
417. But here you have these liberal racists.
418. Oh, and then Russia warned them way back.
419. Do not surround me.
420. Do not move further east.
421. But, Chairman, would you talk on that a little bit?
422. And you were in Russia, and I didn't even talk about how Russia helped the liberation struggles in Africa in the 80s.
423. But go ahead and talk about it.
424. And I'm not saying they're a great society, but my God, this is ridiculous.
425. Well, they never enslaved black people.
426. We don't have Russian last names.
427. We don't have Russian last names, you understand.
428. And Sir Lendela was able to say that they require us to say that their enemies are our enemies.
429. Yes, your enemies are not mine.
430. Right.
431. So we were we went to Moscow and we went to Moscow at the invitation of an NGO from Moscow.
432. And they were having these discussions on self-determination from different people from around the world.
433. There were people from there, from Hawaii.
434. and Puerto Rico, from various other places, from Ireland, various other places around the world,
435. talking about the issue of self-determination. And there was some discussion around migrants
436. because people were being turned into migrants from everywhere. So we were there for that.
437. And we were there because we wanted to continue working on ending the isolation of the struggle
438. of Black people in this country. You are old enough to remember that people said that the
439. thing that got Malcolm S. killed was he internationalized the struggle of black people.
440. He took it around the world. And even King's closest advisors told him that he should not
441. deal with the question of Vietnam. Don't go international, maintain the struggle here.
442. And so our struggle remained isolated. King, of course, did go talk about Vietnam. And so did
443. Malcolm move, and they killed Malcolm, by the way, 17 days after he went to Selma, Alabama,
444. to join SNCC and the civil rights activity that was going on in Selma. So the colonial question
445. has been the fundamental question, and this is the thing that we wanted to address because African
446. people here are running around talking about being opposed to racism. We are fighting against
447. racism. Well, what the hell is that? The thing is, how do you know when you won? Again, the
448. struggle against racism. Does somebody come out with a white flag and say, okay, we surrender as
449. racists? It doesn't work that way. What happens is that we are fighting against colonialism. That's
450. concrete. It's material. And there are clear objectives that one can establish to destroy
451. colonialism And part of that is what happening in Palestine where they taking back their land the resources the agency as a people This is what under assault That why we talking about the sovereignty in Cuba sovereignty of people in Palestine sovereignty in Venezuela
452. People are struggling to take, re-control their own agency.
453. And that's what's happening to our party and the Uhuru movement.
454. Because we're not just here, by the way.
455. We're also in Africa.
456. We're in South Africa and various provinces throughout South Africa.
457. We are in Europe, especially in England and France, but we have footprints in places like Belgium, Germany, etc.
458. So we are in this struggle against a colonial mode of production.
459. And that's what's being disrupted. And that's what's shaking this thing to its very foundation.
460. So we're not saying we're fighting against racism. We're fighting against a colonial mode of production that's got us all, the whole world, locked into this process of parasitism, where a handful of countries and peoples have a parasitic relationship to the vast majority of the peoples in the world.
461. and they built structures and things like that to protect it.
462. And any time you see this being disrupted, as in Cuba, as in Venezuela, as in Palestine, etc.,
463. then you see these attacks, as in St. Louis, Missouri, you see these attacks happening against us.
464. And that's what the Black Panther Party was about.
465. That's what Marcus Garvey was about, etc.
466. These were struggles for self-determination, self-government by African people.
467. Kujichaga Leah, self-determination.
468. If I understand you correctly, what you're saying is once you start doing for self, you're attacked.
469. Is that basically what you're saying?

471. That's it, because once you begin to move to achieve some kind of agency, you attack.
472. And the thing is, this is why this convenient line that we're working for Russia, because there's a presumption,
473. There has to be this presumption that somebody must have made us do this because everything is wonderful for black people in this country.
474. Otherwise, why the hell would we be talking about self-determination?
475. Why would we be talking about reparations?
476. Why would we be talking about all these other things, except especially in a time where the Biden administration was promoting the notion that the U.S.
477. represented this great pinnacle of democracy and fighting against the rest of the world
478. were autocratic places.
479. So if America is so democratic, how does it explain slavery?
480. How does it explain the conditions, the actual conditions?
481. I'm not talking about something that happened a long time ago, the actual conditions of
482. black people in this country.
483. Why is it that you don't even hear any discussion about the people who live in these concentration
484. camps that euphemistically refer to as Indian reservations.
485. If this is such a great democracy that the world is supposed to be defending against
486. all these autocrats like in Cuba that provide free education, free health care, like in
487. Libya, where nobody was homeless, et cetera, like in all these other places, but the great
488. Democrat that's killing all these people, crushing all these people, cannot explain
489. itself without, honestly,
490. without mentioning
491. the conditions
492. of African and other peoples
493. here inside the country itself.

511. Thank you for mentioning that comment, because some people don't necessarily understand much of
512. how our party functions. Like every five years, we develop a five-year plan at our Congress.
513. A Congress. I mean, my responsibility is to provide a political report for the Congress.
514. summing up the current situation, summing up how we got to be where we are today,
515. and then explaining, putting forth strategic objectives that we have to achieve within the
516. next five years. And between this time, every year, we have what we call a plenary, where we
517. sum up how we move subsequent to the Congress, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. People vote on
518. these plenary documents. People vote on these political reports who are in the party. And we
519. make these available to everybody. Anybody who wants to can have access to these political
520. reports by simply going to our websites online. So that's what we do. So we have these plans
521. that we are working on constantly and consistently. And so this one was delayed because when they
522. attacked us in 2022, it meant that the Congress that was scheduled in 2023 could not happen.
523. But we were busy as hell. And so this was the first plenary that we'd had in a while. This was
524. the the seventh plenary or the fourth plenary for my house our uh our seventh congress and uh where
525. we laid out how we understood the world and we laid out you know uh what it was that we have to
526. do to move forward and we talked about a critical thing which is something that we've mentioned just
527. a bit now uh the development of the theoretical work because theoretical work is really important
528. By the way, I don't just talk about theory because if your theory cannot be implemented
529. in practice, it's worthless.
530. It has no meaning at all.
531. So we really believe that African internationalism is a theory of practice.
532. And you can see the practice, what we're doing every place around the world and here in St.
533. Louis.
534. And so to help, and if you don't have theory, this is the origin of opportunism in our movement.
535. Because if you don't have theory, that is to say, to what end?
536. You have a lot of demonstrations, you have a lot of stuff, but to what end?
537. I mean, you can get on a treadmill and you can turn it up as high as it can go and you
538. can run, run, run, run, run.
539. You can sweat, sweat, sweat, sweat.
540. But where is it that you want to go to?
541. This is what the theory helps us to understand So it just not running There is some objective that you have in mind And we believe that the objective for any colonized people is to be self a self independent people free of the rule and control by foreign and alien powers which is what colonialism is
542. So go ahead. I mean, you're rolling.
543. So this is part of what it is that we reestablished.
544. And we also talk about the fact, we said that this time till it's won.
545. This was the title.
546. Power in our own hands.
547. It's not just Trump.
548. It's the whole damn system.
549. This was the theme of the thing.
550. And we say this time till it's won because we've done this before.
551. In Africa, various other places.
552. And what we are supposed to be free, look at Africa.
553. 54 different entities are supposed to be free, and we're worse off now than we were before the damn struggle to get free.
554. Look at what's happened in the United States.
555. We say because there's another class force, because inside the struggle for national liberation, a class struggle is also raging.
556. The question is who's going to lead?
557. What social force is going to lead the struggle for political independence, for economic, for our control of our lives?
558. And in the past, the African middle class has done this all over the world.
559. And sometimes radical middle class, sometimes middle class with guns and what have you,
560. willing to shoot, etc. but not to put forth programs and stuff that will result in actual transformation of the conditions of existence for the oppressed working peoples, etc.
561. And so that's why they killed Sankara, that's why they had to overthrow Nkrumah, that's why they killed Lumumba, etc.
562. etc., etc., because it's going beyond simply becoming a figurehead of independence. It was
563. beyond flag independence as we used to characterize it, and it was for really power coming to the
564. people. And then you had Lumumba, you had Nkrumah, you had other people in Africa who were talking
565. about uniting all of Africa so that we can have control of our own resources, and so they could
566. not pick us off one by one. They could not play us off against the others. And this was
567. so exciting about what we see happening in the Sahel now, where there is an attempt to
568. pull these forces together. So they're saying France get out. And then increasingly they're
569. saying all of them got to get out. And I'm really appreciating a comment from Bikini
570. Faso, who seems to be doing an extraordinary job of self-determining economic development,
571. self-reliance, and that kind of thing. Uhura. Uhura. So just to give people context of what
572. the chairman is saying, three countries in Africa kicked out the colonial powers. That was Mali,
573. Nigeria, and Burkina Faso. And what happened was that they said, we're going to do for self.
574. They started, they're doing their own, they're processing their own gold.
575. They're doing it themselves and, of course, doing it for themselves.
576. They're being attacked vehemently by the United States and France and all these other ones.
577. Just as Brother Chairman O'Malley Ashitele is being attacked for being, wanting to have self-determination for himself, which we call in Swahili, kujichagalia.

598. So one tactic I see, Chairman O'Malley, is distraction.
599. In other words, here they are indicting you.
600. So you're doing work.
601. You're helping the people.

605. You're doing for self, which is a crime in the United States.
606. And that distraction is to indict you.
607. So then you have to spend all your time raising money to fight these charges so you don't go to jail.

609. Yeah, that's part of what it's about.
610. I mean, they developed this practice, and it was full-fledged in the 1960s.
611. They would attack you.
612. You spend all your money now not carrying out the program that you were working on because you've got to defend yourself.
613. You've got to pay lawyers.
614. You've got to get people out of jail, all of this.
615. But we beat them on that question.
616. In fact, the judge said at our sentencing, he said,
617. not one day in jail and no fine. He said, because even if I fine you, you're going to raise the
618. money to pay it anyway, because we have a really effective process with the Hands Off Uhuru,
619. Hands Off Africa campaign. So it cost us about $600,000 overall. This is just legal fees,
620. etc. We had great lawyers and one of the lawyers made an extraordinary gesture. He did it pro bono
621. and he also paid one of the other lawyers to do it as well. But we had these great resources,
622. but that's part of the objective. Take you off point. So you cannot do your work. You spend all
623. your time defending yourself so your program is wasted. You're not now working to free the people,
624. you're working to keep yourself from going to prison, etc. So we got an organization that's
625. 54 years old and which is longer than they usually, most of our organizations have been
626. allowed to exist. The Panthers had a revolutionary life of something like three, four years at the
627. most. Marcus Garvey, you know, they destroyed all of these organizations. So the organizations don't
628. develop enough political maturity and it doesn't have enough experience and what have you to carry
629. out programs. But we defied that. And like I said, we've existed for 54 years and we've created,
630. when they attacked us, part of what we did was open up a new front. And this was the front
631. in their own backyards and their homes and their families, et cetera, with the solidarity movement
632. that does this work on a regular basis. So that's one of the things that's kept us on the ground.
633. So we have developed a pretty effective mechanism. We're going to Atlanta now
634. for these oral arguments on the 22nd. We paid our lawyers mostly for most of what it is that
635. we owe them because we're having to take care of this part of it too. We paid them for the trial
636. Now we're having to deal with the, what do you call it, this portion of it where we have gone for the oral arguments.
637. The appeal.

639. We're in pretty good stead here.
640. So, yeah, we were able to deal with most of that.

665. when he was still in law school.
666. But we have a difference of opinion there
667. in terms of the new African position
668. and that somehow Africans who are in the United States
669. have become a nation of five states, et cetera,
670. in the United States.
671. So we believe that there's only one Africa.
672. And that's the one that Garvey talked about.
673. It's one Africa, it's one nation of African people
674. that's been forcibly dispersed throughout the world.
675. And so central to the struggle that we are talking about
676. is recognition that our national homeland is Africa,
677. but we're fighting on all fronts
678. because as much as we are part of the African revolution,
679. We are part of the revolution of the Americas.
680. There's no place within the Americas
681. where Africans have not played central and crucial roles
682. in developing the revolutionary project.
683. So central to it is the liberation of Africa
684. where all our resources are concentrated and what have you.
685. And also a place that does not implicitly
686. have us in contention
687. with the other indigenous peoples of this land
688. whose oppression and exploitation revolves around the fact that the land was taken immediately from them.
689. That would be so-called Mexicans and other indigenous people, the different First Nation peoples, etc.
