57. How was it carried out? Bloodshed. Number one, it was based on land, the basis of independence. And the only way they could get it was bloodshed.

84. He mentioned 1776, which people are going to be celebrating tomorrow.
85. So why did the settlers have the revolt?
86. Why did they demonstrate, not demonstrate, why did they fight the British?
87. That's going to be my question.
88. What does that mean to you?
89. That's going to be our question today.
90. Why was that revolution fought?
91. Do you know why the revolution was fought?
92. But we're going to get into the real thing of why the revolution was fought.
93. But before we do that, we're going to go to contemporary history.
94. And the revolution, oh, let me just say this.
95. I was driving Lyft, and I pick up a wonderful couple, white couple,
96. and we were having a great conversation.
97. That happens when you drive Lyft.
98. You really meet some great people.
99. So they were nice people, very nice people.
100. And we got into, you know, conversations.
101. But there was something that told me they were really conservative.
102. So they asked me, they said, oh, are you MAGA?
103. I said, no, no, I'm not MAGA.
104. And then I was quiet for a while because I didn't want to, you know, make any mess.
105. I might have told this story before, but here, I want to tell it again.
106. So we went on and then we, you know, I said, well, you know, are you MAGA?
107. They said, oh, yeah, we're MAGA.
108. I said, oh, that's nice.
109. I said, I would be, but I don't believe, you know, this whole thing going on in Gaza and the genocide against the Palestinians.
110. I can't go for that.
111. Oh, but how about October 7th, they said.
112. And I told him, well, you know, the history of Israel started in 1948 when they displaced the Palestinians and basically killed many of them,
113. bogarted the land, land revolution.
114. Land is for land, would Malcolm say.
115. It's for land.
116. They killed all of those folks.
117. And then the people, Hamas is fighting back to get their land back.
118. They've been killing people way before October 7th, they being the Israeli government and the Israeli military.
119. They've been slaughtering.
120. I remember they just shot this journalist with journalists on her chest.
121. They shot her dead.
122. Now, me being a journalist, I said, oh, my God, this is ridiculous.
123. So that didn't start on October 7th.
124. It a continuation just as Nat Turner had the right I believe the right to fight back against his oppressors But like he said you only want to be violent if you fighting somebody else that you don even know
125. Here, let's have a nonviolent protest, which is okay.
126. But anyway, so that is what happened.
127. Oh, then the couple said this.
128. They said, you know what, Jesus.
129. So they evoked Jesus into the conversation.
130. I said, you know what?
131. Would Jesus agree with this?
132. And they were silent.
133. And when they got out of the car, the man gave me a $20 tip and the lady gave me a big hug.
134. Because I said, Jesus will not go along with this.
135. So that goes into my next clip of Jeremiah Wright where he is talking about, he's a reverend.
136. You know, we heard of liberation theology and Christianity.
137. So all my Christian friends, we have to ask ourselves, you know, what would Jesus do?
138. Would we be complicit with this?
139. Would we be silent on all this stuff?
140. Would we just go along with the okey-doke or we would be like Jesus and say, hey, wait a minute.
141. Y'all have to look at this.
142. I have to feed these people.
143. So Reverend Jeremiah Wright, if you recall that name, he was Obama's pastor.
144. And then Obama threw him under the bus because he had to, because he was going to be the head of the imperial empire.
145. So he had to throw Jeremiah Wright under the bus and say hate speech.
146. He's speaking the truth.
147. So let's listen to Reverend Jerry.
148. You might have heard this before, but I can listen to it again and again.

150. prior to abraham lincoln the government in this country said it was legal to hold africans in
151. slavery in perpetuity perpetuity is one of the university of chicago words that means forever
152. from now on when lincoln got in office the government changed prior to the passing of
153. the 13th 14th and 15th amendments to the constitution the government defined africans
154. as slaves, as property, property, people with no rights to be respected by any whites anywhere.
155. The Supreme Court of the government, same court, granddaddy court of the one that stole
156. the 2000 election, Supreme Court said in its Dred Scott decision in the 1850s, no African
157. anywhere in this country has any rights that any white person has to respect at any place,
158. That was the government's official position, backed up by the Supreme Court, that's the judiciary, backed up by the executive branch, that's the president, backed up by the legislative branch, and enforced by the military of the government.
159. But I stop by to tell you tonight that governments changed.
160. Prior to Harry Truman's government, the military in this country was segregated.
161. But governments changed prior to the civil rights and equal accommodations laws of the government in this country.
162. There was back segregation by the country, legal discrimination by the government,
163. prohibited blacks from voting by the government.
164. You had to eat in separate places by the government.
165. You had to sit in different places from white folk because the government said so.
166. And you had to be buried in a separate cemetery.
167. It was apartheid American style from the cradle to the grave.
168. All because the government backed it up.
169. But guess what?
170. Governments changed under Bill Clinton.
171. We got a messed up welfare to work bill.
172. But under Clinton blacks had an intelligent friend in the Oval Office Oh the government changed The election was stolen We went from an intelligent friend to a dumb Dixie crap
173. A rich Republican who has never held a job in his life is against affirmative action,
174. against education, I guess he is, against health care, against benefits for his own military,
175. and gives tax breaks to the wealthiest contributors to his campaign.
176. Governments change sometimes for the good and sometimes for the bad.
177. But I'm fitting to help you again.
178. Turn back and say, he's fitting to help us again.
179. Where governments change, write this down.

195. God was a God of love yesterday and God who does not change is still a God of love today.
196. God was a God of justice on yesterday and God who does not change is still a God of justice today.

198. Where governments lie, God does not lie.
199. Where governments change, God does not change.

209. Hong Kong. Her navies ruled the seven seas all the way down to the tip of Argentina in the Falklands. But the British government failed. The Russian government failed. The Japanese government failed. The German government failed.
210. And the United States of America government, when it came to treating her citizens of Indian descent fairly, she failed. She put them on reservations. When it came to treating her citizens of Japanese descent fairly, she failed.
211. She put them in internment prison camps. When it came to treating the citizens of African descent fairly, America failed. She put them in chains. The government put them on slave quarters, put them on auction blocks, put them in cotton fields, put them in inferior schools, put them in substandard housing, put them in scientific experiments, put them in the lowest paying jobs,
212. put them outside the equal protection of the law.
213. Kept them out of their racist bastions of higher education
214. and locked them into positions of hopelessness and helplessness.
215. The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons,
216. passes a three-strike law, and then wants us to sing God Bless America?
217. No, no, no. Not God Bless America.
218. God Damn America.
219. That's in the Bible for killing innocent people.
220. God damn America for treating her citizens as less than human.
221. God damn America as long as she tries to act like she is God and she is supreme.
222. The United States government has failed the vast majority of her citizens of African descent.
223. And you see, that's Dr. I'm sorry, Dr. He might be a doctor.
224. He's Reverend Jeremiah Wright.
225. That was Obama's pastor, preacher, before he had to run because, you know, he could not.
226. What was he saying?
227. Was anything a lie?
228. No, it wasn't.
229. It was all truths.
230. But governments lie, but God does not.
231. Governments lie, but God does not.
232. So there's a lot of reverends who speak the truth, and they are ostracized or murdered.
233. Just as Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, when he started talking against the Vietnam War.
234. Also the Reverend Malcolm X.
235. Yes, he was a Muslim reverend.
236. We're going to hear another clip from Malcolm.
237. We're going to keep going.
238. Because, you know, this is the 4th of July weekend.
239. And I ask some people, but we'll get to that later,
240. what does the 4th of July mean to you and why do you celebrate it?
241. But let's listen to Reverend Malcolm X.
242. And I don't know if I put that up.

244. Okay, we don't have it? Oh, man. Well, let's do this. I did run around and ask people what the Fourth of July meant to them. So, let's hear some responses. What does the Fourth of July mean to you? Go ahead.
245. What does the Fourth of July mean to you?
246. As being taught his story, it indicates that it is Independence Day for the United States of America.
247. But quite honestly, given the fact the United States is what we consider a melting pot, it is skewed toward the Caucasian race that has subjugated all other cultures, requesting that we assimilate to their history.
248. and you know we would like to celebrate as a nation and be an independent state but it's not
249. independent for all of us so quite honestly um you know i'm i'm hoping for a a greater union
250. and the concept but there's a lot of work still to be done and so uh fourth of july there's a lot
251. of ambiguity in regards to what we're really celebrating. If it's progression toward independence
252. and liberty for all, then I'm all for it. Otherwise, there's still a lot of work to be done.
253. Yeah, that's one response I got. I want to go to the next one in one hot second.
254. And I want to show we going to get to the real another reason why they fought the American Revolution which many of us didn hear about And I didn hear about it either until about four or five years ago thanks to our great Dr Gerald Horn But I want to know for those of you who do celebrate or who think I just crazy call in

258. Should we keep celebrating it?
259. You know, what is your thoughts on that?
260. Let's go to number two.

262. Well, for me, it means to never give up the struggle
263. for justice and freedom for all people.
264. Okay, so you had two versions.
265. We're going to get to a couple more a little later on
266. of what the Fourth of July means to you.
267. But of course, there was that great speech
268. by Frederick Douglass.
269. And he said,
270. to the slave, what is the 4th of July?
271. And I did not bring that up, but you can go and look at that speech.
272. It's amazing.
273. That's usually brought up around this time.
274. What does the 4th of July mean to the slave or to the slave?
275. What does the 4th of July?
276. They asked Frederick Douglass to speak, and that was basically his topic.
277. Now, the great Dr. Gerald Horn did a lot of research about the 4th of July.
278. And we're going to now listen to him.
279. He has a – he's on the podcast India Global Left with the host Jyotishman – I think that's his full name.
280. He's interviewing Dr. Horn.
281. And this goes to – he has a couple of books.
282. They'll be talking – they'll mention the books there.
283. But one of the books woke me up.
284. And I said, oh, M.G., this is one of the big reasons for the American Revolution.
285. I'm asking our audience out here, KPFK listeners, what was the American Revolution for?
286. What do you think it was for?
287. Now we're going to get this other reason that they won't let you know.
288. Here is Dr. Gerald Horn.
289. Well, certainly it is perceptive to suggest that you cannot understand 1776 without understanding
290. the glorious revolution so-called in today's British Isles of 1688. I should also point
291. out before I launch into an exposition of that point that since the book on 1776 published
292. synthetic accounts of the 16th century and the run-up to 1688. Because I think part of the
293. problem with regard to 1776, and many of our analysts of that historic moment, is that they
294. begin the story, for example, perhaps in 1750, which is akin to coming into a movie midway through
295. and assuming that you understood everything that happened before you entered the theater,
296. which is obviously ridiculous. With regard to 1688, of course, you know that there had been
297. the Royal African Company, which had been under the thumb of the monarch in London,
298. and it is initiated roughly in 1670 or thereabouts and of course in my book the Apocalypse of settler Colonialism I explain the run to events that leads to the establishment of the Royal African Company
299. The African slave trade under the thumb of the monarch was wildly lucrative. One could invest
300. one dollar, the equivalent of one dollar, and receive $1,700 in return. And as I've suggested,
301. that there are those today who would sell their firstborn child for a 1,700% profit,
302. not to mention some African that they did not know.
303. Needless to say, this wildly lucrative, odious commerce
304. attracted the attention of the rising merchant class,
305. which wanted to elbow its way in to this process,
306. which leads directly to the so-called glorious revolution of 1688
307. which involves among other things not only the clipping of the wings of the monarch
308. that is to say the erosion of the divine right of kings and of course queens
309. which reaches the kind of zenith in 1776
310. and has been celebrated in a one-sided fashion ever since
311. without looking at the downside damage to people of African descent in particular,
312. who were the untold victims of this great leap forward for humanity, so-called.
313. And so with the glorious revolution, so-called, you see the reduction of the power of the monarch,
314. but you also see what I call the deregulation of the African slave trade.
315. That is to say, the merchants are able to enter this business, which they do with zeal and energy, to the point where the merchants are outfitting ships to descend upon the west coast of Africa in particular, manacling and handcuffing every African in sight, dragging them, kicking and screaming across the Atlantic to work in sugar fields in particular,
316. but not sugar fields exclusively. Sugar has the reputation then of being a kind of miracle drug,
317. that is to say, not only used to sweeten your tea and coffee, but also seen as some sort of
318. drug, so to speak, that would be useful for various maladies, for example.
319. The problem, of course, is that the Africans were unwilling laborers, and at a certain point, their numbers began to grow, not least in the Caribbean, Jamaica, Barbados in particular.
320. And they are outnumbering the settlers, the demographic problem that you alluded to, sometimes at rates of 10 to 1 or 20 to 1, which creates favorable conditions for slave revolts, which began to happen with velocity and rapidity.
321. rapidity to the point where the settlers decide that the better part of wisdom is to make what
322. I call the Great Trek from the Caribbean to the North American mainland. Just as a footnote,
323. my invocation of the term Great Trek is a signal to historians of Southern Africa to pay attention because of course after Britain abolishes slavery in the 1830s decades before the United States of course which does so in the 1860s as a result of the
324. bloodletting known as the U.S. Civil War, in Southern Africa, you see that the European
325. minority begins to make a great trek to escape the jurisdiction of London so that they could
326. continued their brutal exploitation of Africans, for example. And so you see the same process
327. from the Caribbean to the North American mainland, although it's fair to say that
328. even as late as 1750, London saw the Caribbean as being more valuable than the North American
329. mainland, for example, which in some ways helps to explain, it is a factor in explaining why,
330. even though London contested the revolt against their rule on the mainland led by George Washington,
331. at the end of the day, they thought that Jamaica, Barbados, et cetera, were more valuable.
332. And in any case, what was happening on the North American mainland was that they too were seeking to expand slavery, which predictably leads to slave revolts.
333. New York City, 1712, South Carolina, 1739, with Stonehouse Revolt, perhaps the bloodiest revolt of the enslaved under the Union Jack historically.

335. with regard to the slave revolts
336. you see that the enslaved
337. as has been
338. their pattern were aligning
339. with the antagonists of the settlers
340. Stonehenge Revolt for example
341. you see that the Spanish who occupied
342. Florida from about 1565 up until
343. about 1820, the Spanish come across the border from Spanish Florida to stir up the Africans in
344. South Carolina, for example. Likewise, you see that with regard to these revolts of the enslaved
345. in New York City, 1712 and 1741, you have assistance to the enslaved from Quebec,
346. for example. And that leads to this so-called Seven Years' War, once called the French and
347. Indian War. That is to say, when London seeks to do a favor to the settlers by squashing the
348. French in what is now Canada, and also clipping the wings of the Spanish in Florida,
349. They largely succeed in this effort. And once again, a footnote, it's left to this very day a national question in Canada where you have a restive French-speaking population in Quebec, which intermittently has sought to secede from Canada.
350. In any case, after doing this favor for the settlers, understandably, London wants to raise taxes against the settlers.
351. And this is where the traditional story begins. That is to say, the settlers, just like these billionaires and plutocrats today,
352. like to pay taxes, for example. I think that's an inevitable result of having a slave system.
353. You expect labor to be free, for example. You don't have to pay the labor that brings you your
354. tea and coffee. You don't have to pay anybody for favors that are done for you. And so that leads
355. to restiveness amongst the enslaving class, which then spearheads a revolt against London,
356. leading to the establishment of the United States of America,
357. which will be marking its 250th birthday in 2026.
358. We need a wholesale rewriting of the history of North America,
359. the history of this country.
360. And until we are able to do so,
361. I don't feel that we'll be able to understand
362. why we're staring down the barrel of fascism.
363. That was Dr. Gerald Horn.

366. The Star-Spangled Banner is very unique.
367. I don't know why they politicize all the events and have you stand up and do all this.
368. But guess what? It's a racist song.

371. It was written by Francis Scott Keyes.

373. And what he did, he was witnessing the war.
374. That's why the bombs bursting in air, da-da-da, our flag was still there.

387. in other words he's saying so the British offered the

428. So that, you know, we're in all these wars for what?
429. Like Malcolm said, land to expand.
430. All these wars, the lies that they tell us, are for wars.
