19. And let's see what we're going to get into today.
20. It's all about expansion, as we know.
21. It's the journey. The expansion zone is what we're doing all the time. Even when we don't think we're doing that, the journey is just all about expanding. And I like to say that everything that we do with a conversation with a friend of mine today.
22. and I said, you know, there really are no mistakes. We're talking about relationships and,
23. you know, being with the wrong person. And I said, you know, honestly, there is no wrong person.
24. There is the story. There is a story that we are choosing to tell in that time when we are
25. engaged with different people. It really makes a difference. So yes, that's expansion. That's
26. all about growth. So today's guest and topic, of course, is its author, Julie Wignall. And she'll
27. let me know if I pronounced her name correctly in a little bit. And her book, The Extraordinary
28. Power of Fireflies How to Shine Your Light Brighter and Transform the World It known basically as an inspiring and powerful guide for anyone who knows they have a compelling
29. purpose in life but can't get off the launch pad and want to play bigger or are hindered by
30. self-doubt. Those are very important subject matters as so many people, you know, can relate
31. to that at one time or the other in their life. So a short bit about our guest, Julie Wignall is
32. living proof of the power of unconventional choices, showing there are many paths that lead
33. to happiness and success. At just 14, she left high school to attend an experimental alternative
34. school in the 1970s, a daring decision that foreshadowed her trailblazing approach to life
35. and work. While many doubted her path, Julie defied expectations, carving out an extraordinary
36. careers spanning national politics, international business, the arts, environmental conversation,
37. and visionary leadership. All right, so we could go on and on. That's, you know, extraordinary
38. looks like a whole lot. You know, it's adventurous people. So I want to welcome you, Julie, to the
39. Expansion Zone. Good to have you here. Thanks. It's an honor, actually, to be here. I'm a huge
40. fan of yours wow that i did not expect that see i didn't know that i'll take i'll take any fans i
41. can get so all right you know there's there's a lot of things here i think to explore with you
42. i'm gonna say um i'm gonna go ahead and i'm going to address that first first question normally that
43. would not have been. But I think the idea of someone saying, I'm going to leave high school
44. at this time at 14, and I'm going to do something different. So you can either dive into talking
45. about that, that specific thing, or maybe a little bit about who you were or who you saw yourself to
46. be because it all has led into who you are today, who you were to lead you to trust yourself that
47. much to make that choice. Well, you know, you were just talking about there's no such thing as bad
48. relationships. And sometimes that's what we need to grow. Things have to get so bad or the pressure
49. needs to be so strong that it pushes you to make a choice to say, I need to choose something
50. difference. And I, you know, went through a tough time in school. I probably would have been in that
51. yearbook as the kid most likely not to graduate. And I thought I hated learning. And the truth was
52. when I left, what I learned was, is that I loved learning. I didn't like the standard, the
53. administrative side, all of those conventional, you need to do this, you need to do this this way.
54. And I actually ended up going from that experimental school to college before I ever
55. graduated high school, saying that I just, I want to learn. I want to keep learning. And here I am
56. so many years later and I have to tell you I still attend I think I attended 12 colleges universities I still take classes today because there still always new things to learn
57. But the biggest thing that it taught me was what can happen if you break out of those confines of what our culture and our society tell us that we are supposed to do.
58. And years later, after an unconventional background of many, many different careers, I realized that a lot of the people who make it to the top aren't always who you think that they are or they don't always have the background that you think that they have.
59. How many times do you hear from someone going, oh, I would love to do this.
60. This is my life's passion, but I can't do it because I never graduated with a university degree.
61. Or, oh, gee, I graduated with a university degree, but it was the wrong one.
62. So I can't move forward.
63. We come up with excuses why we can't do what we want to do.
64. And, you know, I think bottom line is we live in a society where we have these dreams and hopes and desires when we're little,
65. when we're young, which happens to be a time where we're closer to that source energy. And we live in
66. a culture that says to us when we're in elementary school, you can grow up and be anything that you
67. want to be. And then somehow we become teenagers and adults now start approaching this completely
68. different. That's not really what you want to be. You know, how are you going to make a living doing
69. this. You need to be practical. You need to come up with a different game plan. And we fall into
70. that trap. And we fall into a trap of thinking we're not good enough. We're not worthy. We're not
71. deserving. And we stop trying and people walk around being pretty unhappy. And I don't believe
72. that they need to be. And I began looking around going, okay, people who've made it to these
73. different positions or people who are out changing the world and unconventional like me,
74. what are they? And I came up with a concept that they're fireflies. And I think back in terms of
75. fireflies, anyone who's ever seen a firefly growing up, it's usually an experience that
76. you saw as a kid, maybe in your backyard, something lining up. And this is, we're talking
77. a tiny little beetle that is no bigger than the size of your thumb, but they're filled with magic.
78. They're filled with wonder. When I talk about the extraordinary power of fireflies, people just light
79. up and they go, ah, they're enchanting. They're magical. I remember that. And my purpose and
80. concept is to try to get people to remember just like those fireflies are magic. So are you. And
81. we all have that magic and that power inside of us. We just need to kind of remember it.
82. So I define a firefly of the human sort as someone who sees beyond what is to what can be,
83. and they take steps to create a better reality. And so in my book, I not only talk about different
84. lessons that I've learned in terms of moving forward. At the end of every chapter, I actually
85. give an exercise because I don't think it's enough to inspire people. I want to move you
86. to the next level and let you take it from the pages into your life. So each chapter
87. ends with an exercise But I also wanted to show that it not just me who doing this in an unconventional way and moving forward There are people all over the world that are doing this
88. And I highlight in my book 20 different people in groups around the world that are truly fireflies in just about every field that you can imagine, from health care to the arts, social justice, environment, business, to show that everything really is connected and that there are many ways.
89. We're all trying to get up to the top of the mountain.
90. There are many ways to do this.
91. It's like the person who writes the diet book that says, this is the only way that you're ever going to lose weight, my way or the highway.
92. Or someone else says, no, this is the way to make your first million dollars.
93. And I believe that there are many different paths and that everybody can find their own.
94. It's not just one way.
95. If one way doesn't work for you, let's be creative and let's pivot and find another way.
96. Oh, yes.
97. All right. Well, yes, everything you said does give insight into how you would actually have made those decisions.
98. And I certainly can relate if only we had that kind of time to talk of my insanities.
99. But I mean, it's just trying, you know, it's it's the fearless, I think.
100. and there's an adventurous and curious spirit in people like that that you're describing
101. where they can try different things.
102. And I know for me, I used to always try to explain that to other people and my kids.
103. I get an idea and I want to do it.
104. I never think about how if it's going to fail.
105. I never think about it.
106. Now I'll go and I'll try it. And then in the midst of it, because now the excitement of the idea is not there.
107. You know, we don't like the details. We like to come up with stuff.
108. Now you're in the throes of it. And now you realize what you've taken on. Right.
109. You can relate that. That's how that's why I can relate. Right.
110. So now you're in the midst of this thing. You can't go back, but you've got to go forward. But forward requires more.
111. So there's lots that you said that that I want to bring bring up that people are good with safe things.
112. There's their safety and security, which is why they they don't often just launch off and do things.
113. And then the idea of being irresponsible. So, so there's that program there is, you know, you're being irresponsible and depending on how a person, you know, their upbringing and the fear of their family and the fear, like you said, of how it's going to look and how their family is going to view them or other people.
114. they don't want to seem irresponsible um unfortunately well fortunately for people
115. like you and myself we just apparently we probably looked irresponsible to a lot of people
116. we do it anyway we do it anyway but um and and the idea you said of be you know you can be
117. anything you want to be. And when you said
118. that, I thought, yeah,
119. you can be anything
120. with some boundaries.
121. That's really what you get.
122. You can be anything you want to be.
123. Oh, okay, but you have to do it within these
124. boundaries. So that's another thing. And then possibilities was what you mentioned. The idea of
125. just knowing that there's all you have are all these possibilities and potentials. So I really
126. resonate with all that you were sharing. And I think that's important for somebody out there who
127. is a young person, older person, right? Doesn't matter. Absolutely. And actually, I am a huge
128. proponent and I write about this, projects that I work on and projects that most of the people I've
129. written about work on are completely multi-generational. And I think one of the mistakes
130. that we've made in our society is, you know, take a look around. We've got youth-led movements and
131. we've got senior-led movements. We don't have a lot of human-led movements. I really think that
132. we need seniors and people in their 70s and 80s sharing the world from their perspective, along
133. with people in their 40s and 50s and then 20s to 40s. We also need that 10 year old that reminds
134. us to play and reminds us of those values that we started out with that we go, oh, I'm not sure
135. maybe I should shift. No, you never did that. And, you know, we need to be across generations.
136. but in part of the way that I work I start with you know people thinking about you know everybody
137. gets really bogged down what is my purpose I've done so many different things it's like your
138. purpose can change your purpose is to grow and I always start with your human being your purpose
139. is to help evolve the the human race and to grow and how you do that can change it doesn't have to
140. be just one thing. And glad you mentioned that. I'm glad you meant because that's a big one.
141. Purpose. I hear that so much. You know, I'm trying to find my purpose. And I'm like,
142. everything that you've lived has been your purpose. And you know, you go on to new levels
143. of purpose. But you know, you disqualify your whole life if you're still looking for your
144. purpose right each new purpose guides you to yet something maybe more something bigger uh like
145. you're saying something bigger and maybe you find that you become more invested in this current level
146. of of purposeful uh experience but yes there's a lot of limitations in there and the imagination
147. of a child i love that you're reminding us about that because that's what we lose and i see that
148. my granddaughter who is 11 and I love I love watching her because she's such a go-getter
149. they call her they call her little Sonia because she's so similar she you know she just goes after
150. and she does but the imagination we should never lose that we should never lose that it changes
151. everything it changes how we think it changes how we approach things and let's face it we need
152. new ways to move forward in the world. And we need a paradigm shift because following these
153. old worn out belief systems really isn't working. And you know, when you did your film,
154. The Business of Disease, what you talked about in terms of health and the mind's body connection
155. with the world, that we have to do what we can to make changes ourselves instead of waiting,
156. instead of waiting for a system to do something for us And that where I pull together fireflies and fireflies everywhere because we got to stop waiting for and a firefly doesn wait
157. They don't wait for permission to shine their light.
158. They just do.
159. And as human beings, we don't need permission to shine.
160. We don't need permission to follow what's going to make us happy in our hearts.
161. We just need to get out there and we need to shine and we need to find new ways to rise in what I call those spaces between.
162. And, you know, whether you want to talk about it through quantum physics, metaphysics, the field, you can call it anything that you want.
163. But when everybody's screaming about what's going on today, let them scream.
164. We got stuff to do and we don't have time.
165. That's how I feel.
166. And but it's a wonderful opportunity to say, let's maneuver in the spaces between and let's get stuff done.
167. Let's just move forward and do what we need to know.
168. Stop waiting for a system to fix something and start looking at things differently.
169. One of the examples that I used in my book, you know, one of the big issues, of course, that you hear about today is is environmental conservation.
170. and it's become this turn where we make everybody feel badly about what they do.
171. You know, an average person goes into a grocery store and they go, they make this decision,
172. this conscious decision.
173. They say, I'm going to eat healthy this week.
174. So you go and you pick up all these fruits and vegetables and they go, they get into
175. the refrigerator, they sit on the counter and somehow life happens.
176. and a week, 10 days later, you're now growing science experiments every place with the lettuce
177. that hasn't been eaten in this. And from this environmental conservation community,
178. we bully the person who's gone shopping. Oh, you're the bad guy. Do you know much? Food is
179. wasted. Food is like one of the number one things in landfills. But what if we step back
180. and we do a paradigm shift? One of the people that I've written about, Leila
181. at Jaralu is a designer. And she came up and said, you know, what if we stop badgering people for the
182. behavior that we were doing? And let's go and let's research what our refrigerator is like.
183. What if we had refrigerators that could keep that food so that it lasted longer and stop beating up
184. people and making them feel really badly for trying to be healthy, for making choices,
185. and let's design things better, make things easier.
186. Let's come at it from a completely different point of view.
187. And when you can do that and step back,
188. you start seeing new answers and new solutions.
189. And if you're looking at following, you know,
190. the things that make you happy,
191. you find new opportunities to be able to live that life
192. that you want to live.
193. Oh, yes.
194. Oh, yes, absolutely.
195. um you said a mouthful there and and yes necessity truly is the mother of invention
196. um and my you're you're speaking my language because yes that that is my motto stop waiting
197. on the system and all these people to um to make sure that you know your life is this particular
198. way. I think that it's momentum. That's how I look at it. This moment in time, as we've
199. had all these different moments in time, whether politically, you know, it just, we've just
200. had a lot of these very similar moments And I think it about what am I going to do for myself And that what you saying What do I want to do Because in the end it is you you are the owner of you
201. That's right. And you know, I tell people, let's pivot. And instead of just focusing on your
202. purpose, let's put that aside. Your purpose is to be here to be human. And I turn around,
203. I ask people instead, what makes you happy? Yeah. And interestingly enough, a number of years ago,
204. I had the opportunity to work with what they were considered at-risk boys.
205. They were all in trouble, 14, 15, 16 years old.
206. Parents didn't know what to do with them.
207. They sent them away to an area.
208. They were getting therapy and this and that.
209. But I got the opportunity to work with them outside nature, environmental conservation,
210. to make sure that while they were sent away that they still got these school credits.
211. And after the second day of working with these kids, I looked at these boys and I said, you know what, you're carrying a lot of anger around and I get it and you're frustrated.
212. But I said, if I were your fairy godmother and I came and I knocked on your door and said, OK, your wish is my command.
213. What would you ask for? What would you wish for? What would make you happy?
214. And of course, dealing with 14 to 16 year old boys, I expected that they were going to come back and say, well, I need a million dollars and I need to be a rap star and I need to be a this and that.
215. And they all stared at me with blank looks.
216. And one of the boys said to me, you know, no one has ever asked that before.
217. And I haven't thought about that since I was really little.
218. And over the next couple of days, little things came out from these kids who were, like I said, labeled as troublemakers.
219. They were probably some of the brightest kids that I've worked with.
220. But they came back to me one at a time.
221. And I was like, you know what?
222. I was thinking about it.
223. And the thing that really makes me happy are Sunday mornings.
224. My dad and I get up and we make pancakes together for the family.
225. Another kid came out and was like, we have a dog.
226. And, you know, sometimes it's just me and the dog taking a walk.
227. And I really like that.
228. And it turned out as the weeks went by, there were little moments.
229. And when I think about, you know, what makes me happy, what makes most people happy?
230. It's those moments of connection.
231. It's not the, oh, I got my degree.
232. It's not the, oh, I accomplished this.
233. and like you mentioned we say oh it's it's the journey right we say that but we only give lip
234. service to that absolutely because oh it's the journey but I still I will I will celebrate I
235. will relax I will have a good time I will appreciate everything once I reach this milestone
236. and what we forget is is when we reach that milestone come on what do we do first of all
237. We sit around and we reminisce about all the ridiculous things that happened along the journey, along the way.
238. Oh, my gosh, do you remember this and this and this?
239. And we sit down and we pat ourselves on the back for about 30 seconds.
240. We've made it to the top of this mountain.
241. And then we start looking around and go, oh, there's another mountain and there's another mountain.
242. And maybe, maybe this is going to be the next, the next milestone, the next goal.
243. There's always going to be a next goal.

284. And, of course, my guest today is author Julie Wagnall and her new book,
285. of course, the extraordinary power of fireflies. I love the analogy, the comparison of the firefly
286. because we really are these little light beings that don't remember that we light up.
287. You're right. And when I tell people, when you think that, gee, I'm just one person,
288. how much of an impact can I have? I'll say, remember the size of a tiny firefly and the
289. impact that it has on you. And I'll tell you something a lot of people don't know.
290. There are two areas that we know of today in the world of what we call synchronous fireflies.
291. So imagine this, many people have experienced seeing fireflies in their backyards,
292. But we have in the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee and in Malaysia, in the forests of Malaysia, are areas where they have synchronous fireflies.
293. These are fireflies that flash as a group.
294. There can be hundreds.
295. They light up the entire forest at night.
296. It is a once-in-a-lifetime thing that everybody, I think, should experience.
297. If you've forgotten to believe in magic, you cannot possibly walk away from that and not say the world is full of miracles and is incredible.
298. But the synchronous fireflies, they light up the forest.
299. Imagine if every person starts shining their light brighter.
300. And as we start doing it together as a community of people who support one another, people who encourage one another,
301. We become like those synchronous fireflies and you can be in a forest that is so dark at night.
302. You can barely see the fingers at the end of your hands, but you look up and there are shining lights everywhere.
303. Oh, I love that. I love that. That is I would love to go and see that.
304. First of all, put it on your bucket list.
305. I call it my to do list.
306. I don't keep a bucket list at all.
307. I'm right there with you.
308. I call it the to-do list.
309. It's my to-do list.
310. So, yeah.
311. And a couple of other things.
312. You mentioned, you happened to mention my film.
313. And because of everything we're talking about, I want to say that that was one of the most difficult things I had ever done because I had never done it before, is to produce that film.
314. But I want to say how amazing it is.
315. And that's what makes you a firefly. We don't stop. People will go, oh, I can't do this because I'm not a filmmaker.
316. I've produced a number of television shows without that background.
317. But why? And it's like, what gave me, you know, what in the world made you think that you can do this?
318. Well, because you have something that you want to say. Right.
319. You have this brilliant idea. I've got to get this out. I've got something I want to say.
320. And that one of those experiences like you said that you halfway through this and went oh I didn know I didn know What was I thinking But you so right because I have you know I ran into other people that you know they waiting on funding
321. So those are some of the things.
322. And I'm not really good at waiting on things like other people.
323. I believe in starting.
324. I start and I don't know how I'm going to do it, but I'm going to start.
325. So that film, in my mind, was going to be like a little YouTube video.
326. it turned into this 77 minute feature film uh yeah and and and when you begin money things happen
327. to allow you to finish but if you don't start then exactly yeah if you if you don't put that
328. that um out there um if you don't allow yourself if you don't give yourself permission
329. then there's no reason for anything the support that you would need to to be there exactly and
330. you bring up a really good point because we get down and dirty to that money issue oh i would do
331. this if but i can't afford it and i don't i don't have the money we forget money is just an exchange
332. of energy and you don't go, I need money to create a film. You go, because money doesn't make a film.
333. You go, I need people that are going to be interviewed on my film. I need people who are
334. going to film it. I need people who know about editing. Well, I haven't mentioned that term
335. money once. And somehow when you focus on the energy of what you need, the rest of this comes
336. through back and forth. Absolutely. And another thing too, Julie, is that I point this out to
337. people. They don't have the money, but if there's an emergency, somehow they find it in an emergency.
338. So we're used to waiting for survival, things that are very survival related and urgent to
339. find the resources um and it doesn't always necessarily need to come in in in this this
340. currency in the in that format uh so yeah the emergency some it's something that people out
341. there everybody you just think about it yeah you find a way if there's an emergency but if it's not
342. and it's something that you want and something that you're thinking about you like you said
343. earlier there's a distraction then there's a hiding we find ways to hide behind a reason
344. we have to give ourselves reasons right to not proceed right then money is generally the scapegoat
345. exactly i don't have the money i don't have the resources i don't know the right people
346. i but it usually gets down to i don't i don't have the money yeah i don't and then it's like
347. okay somewhere in the back of your mind it's like oh good i found a reason okay that's what it is
348. There's always an excuse.
349. I tell a story sometimes.
350. I had a woman that I worked with who said, oh, it's the same thing.
351. Listen to what you're saying.
352. She said, I really need to make friends and I need to get out.
353. And I said, well, here's a group.
354. You said that you were interested in local community things.
355. Here's a group that you can join.
356. She said, oh, well, I have to work during the day.
357. I can't go.
358. And I said, and I hadn't said anything.
359. I said, well, they don't meet during the days when you work.
360. Oh, but I can't drive at night.
361. Oh but I didn say that it was there are no meetings at night And it was like every excuse And I said you know this is a group that meets in the afternoon on Saturdays there is no reason why you couldn but you already come up with every excuse
362. so the thing is is do you want to do this or don't you and you know and that's where I get down
363. to I start with let's find what makes you happy I think that today one of the things we don't pay
364. enough attention to is our code of values. When you know what makes you happy, now let's go,
365. what are the values that you want to live by? Because we're losing a lot of those today.
366. Integrity, honesty, transparency. When you have this code of values, that impacts the choices
367. that you make. I've dealt with too many people go, oh, why am I in this situation? Well, because you
368. had a code of values and you left them behind. So when someone said, oh, this is an easy way,
369. it's not quite so legal to do this. You went, okay, I'm going to go in that direction.
370. You forgot your values. Yeah. Yeah. And the values become very important
371. dealing with our fear. Fear is universal. We all have fear in terms of moving forward. You just
372. You have to get, like you said, so excited about something that you kind of take that fear with you and you don't hide it, but it just kind of comes along for the jump and you don't let it stop you to let you move forward.
373. And then, you know, because I talk about moving in the spaces between, I think the other thing that becomes important is working with people to help develop their intuition.
374. everybody who has you know found a way made at the top you know how did you do this well
375. I followed my intuition and well how do you do that and where does that start and that starts
376. with becoming very aware self-aware aware of yourself from that head to toe your mind's body
377. relationship, health now connecting to the world around us. One of the biggest lessons with a
378. background in biology is that everything is connected. But when we talk about that with
379. biology, we're only talking about all the plants, the trees, the you, the me. No, let's get bigger
380. and let's get bigger and let's get bigger because everything is connected. And once we start
381. becoming more aware of ourselves, then it becomes time to take the next step and start becoming more
382. aware of other people. I actually have on my website, a free download called Flying Lessons
383. for Fireflies. Just to get started five simple exercises you can do to start shining brighter
384. right now. And one of the exercises in there is just what I call the grocery store exercise. I
385. I mean, it's something as simple as that.
386. Someone says, oh, if I'm going to increase my intuition, I have to start downloading
387. information from the ethers and I have to do this and I have to do that.
388. And it's like, let's start with you.
389. And let's start with how you maneuver through a grocery store.
390. You know, are you aware of what's going on in that grocery store?
391. Do you see all the different products?
392. What do you do if somebody has left their cart in the middle of the aisle?
393. Do you push it to the side?
394. Do you say, excuse me?
395. Do you find another way around?
396. How aware of all the other people in the grocery store are you?
397. Would you know if somebody at the end of an aisle needs help reaching something from a top shelf Do you stop and talk to the cashier as you checking out You know the more we become aware on a daily basis and become mindful of our lives and living
398. in the moment, the more we increase that intuition to also become more aware of all the opportunities
399. that are out there for us to move forward. Yes, yes, yes. And yeah, I like to also refer to it
400. as being available to the moment.
401. Are you available right now?
402. And that's what happens.
403. Most times people are unavailable.
404. So they're on auto.
405. So I understand that.
406. Now, I wanted to ask you about your website.
407. Would you mention your website?
408. Would you also speak about anything that you offer?
409. I don't know if you do workshops,
410. if you work with people one-on-one,
411. anything that you would like to share with anybody listening that might need that kind of support as
412. well yes you know I speak I do workshops for associations and organizations and companies
413. I also do coaching and workshops with people in individuals even on individual basis on a group
414. basis but what I have on my website that I would like anybody who's listening who wants to shine
415. brighter and wants to get moving, I have a free download that are flying lessons for fireflies.
416. It's just five exercises to get you started. It is totally free. And the bigger thing is,
417. is what it does is, is you, by downloading it, you join my mailing list, which is once a week,
418. a small tidbit that comes to your inbox with just a note of inspiration or encouragement,
419. because I think that's what we all need. I mean, it's no sales, it's no gimmicks,
420. it's no sign up with me. It's just, I believe that we need to start creating more community
421. of more like-minded and kindred spirits that are doing all kinds of things. And I think everybody
422. needs just a little piece of encouragement and inspiration every year. And that's what people
423. get for that. If somebody wanted to know what it was like to even work with a coach,
424. like many other coaches, I have an area on my website where anybody can book a free
425. 30-minute discovery session. The purpose of that is not to sell anybody on anything. I collect
426. background information and try and work with people to help them gain a little bit more clarity,
427. to help them take the next big step. And the purpose of it and why I do it for free, why other
428. coaches do it for free is because nobody makes it to that destination they're trying to reach by
429. themselves. Everybody needs help. And it's to give people an idea of what that should look like,
430. whether it's from a coach, a therapist, a friend, a mentor.
431. If you're surrounded by a bunch of naysayers and you're trying to do the impossible,
432. you're going to have a hard time moving forward.
433. So it's the concept of saying, you know, whether it's something you want to do now or in the future,
434. just know this is the kind of support you should be looking for at all times.
435. And these are the type of things you should be surrounding yourselves with because we all need cheerleaders.
436. Yeah, yeah, that's absolutely true. Because so many people are feeling they need some assistance with direction and focus.
437. we're in a time of necessary upheaval, let's say. And we have people who say they don't like their
438. jobs and they want to leave it or they want to start a business. But then, yes, when the upheaval
439. comes, unplanned, all of that goes out the door because there's a fear because you don't know
440. how you're going to move forward or how things are going to turn out. And yeah, as you said in
441. the in the earlier part of our talk sometimes we just have to get pushed and uh and that push
442. happens and when it happens we have to just go okay okay i see what you know i'm i'm here but
443. one one little humorous thing you did you used to watch saturday night live always okay so you
444. remember that that that skit um the liar the skit where he would you would say something he'd go yeah
445. that's a ticket yeah that's a ticket yeah that's a thing well well that when you when you were
446. talking about people and the excuses you know it was like yeah that's that's that's a ticket that's
447. it right there no money no money right right you know or or yeah oh yeah that's right uh i have to
448. go out of town. I mean, it's just, you know, it's just any reason to come back to the, the,
449. the validations for qualifying, not moving forward. Well, and I use Saturday night life too,
450. to with people who say, but I'm trying everything. I do everything that I'm told to do. And I've been
451. following this guru and this guru and I'm manifesting and I am meditating and I'm this
452. and nothing is happening.
453. And I keep joking that I need to do a course
454. called Manifesting for the Rest of Us.
455. And I would talk about the Saturday Night Live skit
456. where they've all been visited by aliens
457. and there's Kate McKinnon who goes,
458. well, my experience wasn't quite like that.
459. You know, I tried the meditating,
460. didn't quite work that way for me.
461. And that's the concept of us each finding our own path
462. to the top of that mountain.
463. I've spent many, many years studying and working with Young Ian psychology.
464. And Carl Young once said, if the path before you is clear, you're probably on somebody else's.
465. And it's like, you got to remember that.
466. But there are many of us, you, me, countless other people, we keep talking about, yes, this is a time of upheaval.
467. It's a time of change.
468. But for positive things, and we have to transcend.
469. We have to rise in those spaces between to make things happen, not wait for governments and institutions to create things for us.
470. And it's a great concept that we all have and we do that.
471. But when people are working on their own, you go, I've got to remember that.
472. I've got to remember that.
473. Or when it's a bad day or some other news headline comes out, you go, oh, I've forgotten that because now I'm going down the rabbit hole on something else.
474. And that's one of the reasons why I do the weekly, just a small note of inspiration, just to say, let's reconnect you.
475. And let's remind you that, yes, you know, what we're saying, we've all got this vision and we're going to work as a community in all different areas to get that vision to become reality.
476. Yeah it is very it very easy for people to get thrown off because it every day It every day If you getting up every day and you listening to the news you know obviously you know they have to keep it exciting
477. So it's, you know, it's all that stuff.
478. I guess today when I came home, there was a car chase going on.
479. And I'm like, what's going on in the matrix right now?
480. So it's this constant part of, what should I call it?
481. It's this constant entertainment to somebody.
482. And even though we're looking at horrific situations, we also have to look at how people are drawn into this addiction of listening to the horrific information at 5 o'clock and then 6 and then 10.
483. And it's like, okay, how many times can you listen to that?
484. But then it pulls people down too.
485. Right.
486. Yeah.
487. And I was just reading and I thought this was absolutely fabulous.
488. In Europe, I think they've gone in Spain, in Amsterdam, in Australia, in a number of countries.
489. It's just to go like internet free for periods of time.
490. and they're doing things where just to bring people and put down your phone, don't bring it in.
491. We're not paying attention. We're going offline and we're just going to spend time. Maybe you'll
492. have a cup of tea. Maybe you'll read a book. Maybe you'll do a craft session, but maybe you'll do
493. anything that you feel like. Maybe you lay down and look at the clouds, but to get back to
494. connecting with people. You know, when we were dealing with COVID, everyone was like,
495. oh, this is so horrible. And, you know, we don't have that connection with people anymore. Well,
496. here we are coming out of that. And what are we doing to make those connections with other
497. people? You know, it's a movement I certainly hope comes here to the United States. But to say,
498. you know, let's put this down and let's start working with people and creating community
499. one-on-one. Absolutely. Well, I think people became fearful and really mistrustful or distrustful
500. of each other because they weren't sure, oh, are you going to, you know, infect me? Are you going
501. to? So everybody went into this sort of survival mode, a very primal survival mode. So everybody,
502. there was suspicion with everyone. So you're right. I think that coming out of that, and that
503. does something obviously, yes, to our brain, to how we're wired, to how we end up functioning.
504. So that's a whole other show in terms of that situation. But yes, absolutely, Julie, it is time
505. for people to realize this is going to be about me in the end. Doesn't matter. Okay, I get it.
506. with the laws and whatever it is that's going on. But in the end, again, comes back to always keeps
507. coming back to you because everywhere you go, there you are. You can't get away from yourself.
508. Yeah. Yeah. And today, I think in terms of seeing change for the future and taking those big quantum
509. steps, I don't think it's going to come from on top. I think it's going to come from a grassroots
510. roots, community level of people and human beings with human beings and, like I said,
511. rising in those spaces in between.
512. Absolutely Absolutely Waiting on the system I always say the system is what it is and been like that for such a long time any kind of system governing system So therefore you have to build something new
513. And you build something new in the manner that you're speaking about.
514. Gradually, new things are being formed in terms of health, what we like to call alternative health, which is really not alternative.
515. But anyway, yeah.
516. So it's looking at it from that standpoint in building something else, not going to war with that because that doesn't work.
517. No, exactly.
518. And that's why I use the term, you know, unconventional, unconventional, even over alternative, because when we all do the quote unquote unconventional over a period of time, it becomes conventional.
519. You know, when I left high school and attended a college as a teenager, it wasn't because I was brilliant, which because I wanted to learn.
520. That was unconventional.
521. But today, how many teenagers across the United States are graduating from high school with a two year degree from a community college?
522. It's conventional now.
523. I was actually adopted at a time when it was considered very, very unconventional.
524. my original adoption papers were actually from the humane society of the united states if you
525. can imagine that the ones that take care of dogs and cats but it was today it's not
526. unconventional it is it is more conventional we still it's the norm it's the norm and we still
527. have a far way to go on everything but when we take those alternative and unconventional paths
528. we're connecting with other like-minded spirits who are kind of doing the same thing and over time
529. that unconventional becomes conventional that's right that's right and and that's well that's
530. how nature works right this is this is the law of adaptation this is how we are who we are today
531. as human beings is all the adaptations that have happened um and the changes and the the desire for
532. for new things and new ways to operate.
533. And we are the result of that.
534. So yeah, it's in every area of our lives,
535. utilizing that same concept, every area of our lives.
536. So we only have about,
537. well, actually we're down to like a minute or so left.
538. So any quick thing you want to say, anything else?
539. My only quick thing I would want to say
540. to anybody that's listening is that this isn't time to wait, that the world needs you now. We
541. need your light. We need your light to shine brighter. And you don't have to wait. You don't
542. have to wait another minute. That's why you're here. Honor the commitment that you made before
543. you were born, when you were little, and move forward and make your dreams come true. Because
544. when you're happy, it makes everybody else happy. That changes the world. Oh, absolutely. I definitely,
