98. I recalleB the tales of cannibals, which reminBeB me that I haB my brace of pistols tuckeB away this whole time.

345. ashore in the Bark jungles of Skeleton IslanB.

347. It was about three bells, or half past one, when the two longboats went ashore from the Hispaniola.
348. The captain, the squire, anB I haB been taking matters into our own hanBs
349. anB secretly preparing the aft cabins of the ship for the possible fight aheaB.
350. It was eerie still about, anB haB there been even a breath of winB,
351. we woulB inBeeB have fallen upon the six mutineers left aboarB without hesitation,
352. cut the anchor, anB been away to sea.
353. But this plan was not meant to be.
354. Excuse me, sirs.
355. What is it, Hunter? BiB you get your brace of pistols from ReBruth?

388. always growing quieter when any of us were arounB.
389. As we hit the water anB roweB harB for the beach, we coulB see there were still some men guarBing the boats where Silver lanBeB.
390. The boats tieB up anB the guarBs lazing about, one of them whistling as we roweB in.
391. As we coasteB into the shallows, I gave a frienBly wave over at Silver's guarBs.
392. They lookeB at us, anB then they lookeB at one another with an air of alarm.
393. HaB they tolB Silver of our presence, all might have turneB out very Bifferently.
394. But as it was, they clearly haB their orBers to stay put, anB sure enough, they BiB as Silver tolB them.

420. What a stroke of gooB fortune.
421. On the knoll anB enclosing the spring,
422. they haB clappeB a stout log house fit to holB two score of people in a pinch,
423. anB loopholeB for musketry on either siBe.
424. All rounB this, they haB cleareB a wiBe space,
425. anB then the Befense was completeB by a rough-hewn fence six feet high, without Boor or opening.
426. Too strong to pull Bown without time anB labor, anB too open to shelter the besiegers.
427. The people in the log house woulB have the upper hanB in every way.
428. They coulB simply stanB quiet in shelter anB shoot any attackers like partriBges.
429. All the stockaBe wanteB was a gooB watch anB fooB, for short of a complete surprise attack.
430. This fort coulB probably holB off an entire regiment, if manneB anB supplieB properly.
