94. Hello, Soul Rebel familia. This is Pedro Chavez, immigration attorney and your host right here at
95. Hello Pedro Chavez on Soul Rebel Radio. Each week, I share insights, guidance, and real-world
96. strategies to help you navigate the immigration process with confidence. Whether you're seeking
97. clarity on visas, residency, or citizenship, I'm here to empower you with knowledge and keep you
98. informed. So with that said, let's jump right into it. Tennessee is threatening to report children
99. who are using an emergency health care program. I'm going to discuss that and also how the Trump
100. administration has eliminated a lot of health care opportunities for people who are undocumented,
101. specifically children. So a few months ago, Tennessee passed a law that says that anybody
102. that's taking certain health care benefits, if they don't have legal status in the United States,
103. that their lack of status would be eventually reported to ICE.
104. The health care benefit at issue is called the Child Special Services Program.
105. It is for the sickest of the sick children.
106. It's for children that have terminal illnesses or very serious conditions like spina bifida or ongoing cancer treatment.
107. In order to qualify for it, you can't be insured any other way.
108. If you have Medicaid, you can't get it.
109. If you have CHIP, you can't get it.
110. It only applies if you are uninsurable and you have a serious medical condition and you're a child.
111. Now, rather than try to eliminate the program altogether for undocumented children, what they're doing is threatening to report them if they continue to use it.
112. So technically, they can still use this program.
113. But if they do, they'll be reported to Tennessee's Central Immigration Enforcement Division that cooperates with ICE.
114. Basically, they'll be reported to ICE if they continue to use the benefit.
115. Now, this can be an empty threat if you're already under a pending status, like, say, asylum.
116. Because technically, ICE already knows about you.
117. You filed a form.
118. ICE knows where you live.
119. But for children that are completely undocumented, then this will be the first time they have
120. an encounter with ICE.
121. ICE will know about them for the first time and then probably place them in removal of
122. proceedings or detain them.
123. It's important to distinguish this program for children for emergency health care from
124. the regular programs like Medicaid and CHIP.
125. So Medicaid and CHIP, it doesn't run out of money.
126. It depends on how many people sign up for it.
127. the federal government will match it and it just keeps growing as more people enroll in it But this child program is grant funded which means that there is a limited amount of money Now when the One Big Beautiful Bill was
128. passed in July of 2025, the Trump administration eliminated eligibility for children for Medicaid
129. and CHIP. Unless your state has specific funds, like just state funds to cover Medicaid and CHIP
130. for children, you didn't get it anymore after July 2025. And that led to a lot of children that
131. qualified that had terminal illnesses that otherwise could have gotten Medicaid or CHIP
132. to sign on to the only program that was left, which was the child special services program
133. that every state has. That program, which again is grant-based, there's a limited amount of money
134. towards it as opposed to an entitlement that keeps growing over time depending on enrollment.
135. What that could result in is a lot of states might choose to maybe follow suit with what
136. Tennessee is doing, which is eliminate a lot of children from this very emergency-specific
137. limitedly funded pool.

157. What I loved about it is that he invited people
158. with opposing views to come into the chat
159. and talk about, like, hey, try to convince me
160. why this shouldn't matter.
161. And then he would provide knowledge and snippets.
162. And it was very fascinating and just inspiring
163. to hear him still talk about it across all platforms, right?
164. Because he's not just educating families
165. and members of the community in that way
166. of, like, know your rights presentations,
167. but now he's trying to connect with people
168. We use the platform TikTok, which is really gravitated towards people who are in high school or in their young 20s.
169. And so I really appreciated that he did that.
170. It was really cool of him.
171. Pedro is such a patient man.
172. He's always willing to sit down with somebody and have a dialogue.
173. And he's wanting to show them.

189. I still, you know, one thing that hasn't changed is how crazy life has been politically when it comes to the news.
190. But I will say that I felt very proud to send my ballot in early.
191. I did that interview.
192. Excellent.
193. Yeah, I did my interview with Butch Ware.

And although I wasn planning on voting for him it was great to have that conversation like Pedro has with his followers of Open Dialogue because the one thing that we can do is educate others And I think that really important when it comes to Carlos Madrigal and giving us you know what going on in the news One of the focuses this week big was California
195. And that's because in California, we really are patient about making sure that every vote counts.
196. Trump is now treating California's vote count like a crime scene.
197. Why? Because his preferred candidates started slipping.
198. In the Los Angeles mayor's race, Mayor Karen Bass is headed toward the November runoff.
199. The second spot is still tight between City Council Member Nithya Raman and Republican reality TV personality Spencer Pratt.
200. Pratt looked stronger on election night.
201. Then California did something shocking.
202. It kept counting votes.
203. I know, terrifying stuff.
204. As more mail ballots were counted, Raman moved ahead of Pratt.
205. And Trump claimed fraud.
206. But slow counting is not automatically cheating.
207. California allows mail ballots to be counted after Election Day if they were postmarked on time.
208. Election workers still have to verify signatures, process ballots, and finish the official count.
209. That can take days.
210. It can be frustrating.
211. It can make everyone stare at election results like they are watching paint dry in a courtroom.
212. But it is legal.
213. And it is not proof of fraud.
214. The real problem is the pattern.
215. When an early count favors Trump's side, the election is fine.
216. When later counted ballots hurt Trump's side, suddenly the whole system is rigged.
217. That is not evidence.
218. That is just suspicion based on who is winning.
219. If there is real fraud, show the proof.
220. Investigate it.
221. Put facts on the table.
222. But a slow count is not a stolen election.
223. And a candidate falling behind after legal ballots are counted is not a scandal.
224. It is literally how counting works.

227. and this is gayatri ratnasamy vice president jd vance traveled to switzerland on friday
228. to sign a tentative deal to end the war with Iran.
229. We've never had this level of direct communication
230. between the highest levels of their society
231. and the highest levels of our political leadership.
232. So something has fundamentally transformed.
233. Can I say with 100% certainty
234. that they're going to meet every obligation to this bargain?
235. No, of course not, because I can't predict the future.
236. What I can say is that we've structured this deal in such a way
237. where their benefits only accrue if our benefits accrue as well.
238. The specifics of the agreement remain unclear, with announcement to extend the ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
239. President Trump said Friday is the day that merchant ships can once again sail unimpeded through the major waterway.
240. But questions are still lingering regarding how quickly commercial vessels can resume their journeys and whether Iran will permit free passage through the international waterway.
241. Around 1,500 ships remain stranded inside the Persian Gulf awaiting clearance to leave, according to industry analysts.
242. Iran says the first closure of the deal, set to be signed on Friday, mandates that attacks on Lebanon may be stopped.
243. must be halted, which has yet to be seen.
244. New Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Walsh held his first news conference Wednesday afternoon.
245. Trump chose Walsh to lead the central bank in the hopes that he would advocate for lower interest rates.
246. The committee decided to maintain the target range for the Fed funds rate at 3.5% to 3.75% in support of the Fed's dual mandate.
247. The committee also reaffirmed its policy of maintaining ample reserves in the banking system.
248. Economic activity is expanding at a solid pace, despite elevated uncertainty that owes in part to the conflict in the Middle East.
249. In May, the cost of living jumped 4.2% from a year ago, the largest annual increase since 2023.
250. This surge is mainly driven by rising energy prices linked to the U.S. war with Iran.
251. Until inflation moderates, the Fed is unlikely to lower interest rates.
252. An investigation is underway tonight after a small plane crashed through an airport fence in Pekoma.
253. Emergency crews rushed to Whiteman Airport in the afternoon.
254. authorities say a two-seat single-engine legacy 2000 aircraft overshot the runway the aircraft
255. smashed right through a chain-link fence it finally came to a stop under a tree in an airport
256. parking lot now the chopper video showed debris including wing fragments scattered across the
257. asphalt firefighters say about five gallons of fuel spilled on the runway miraculously the plane
258. did not catch fire and now the FAA is investigating. This is just the latest incident that triggered
259. intense safety concerns from neighbors. It was two months ago that a Cessna 172
260. clipped a power pole while landing at Whiteman Airport.
261. Fortunately for him, due to the extent of the damage that I saw to the airplane,
262. the fact that he only had minor injuries was very lucky.
263. You know, they say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
264. Sadly, what happened today is just a repeated pattern.
265. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors ordered an immediate safety review as well due to the recent crashes.
266. A man is in custody tonight after a terrifying hit and run rampage through Culver City.
267. Police say the driver appeared to intentionally target pedestrians.
268. Four people are injured.
269. The chaos began just after 7 p.m. with a knife point carjacking in downtown Los Angeles.
270. Shortly after, emergency dispatchers in Culver City received frantic 911 calls.
271. Witnesses reported a white Toyota Corolla hitting pedestrians and nearly striking several others.
272. officers spotted the vehicle and launched a high-speed pursuit.
273. The coyotes tore onto the northbound 405 freeway near Slassen Avenue.
274. Recognizing the severity of this suspect's actions
275. and the recklessness and the danger he was putting our community in
276. that was why our officers continued to engage in pursuing him.
277. We're just thankful that we were able to get him to custody quickly
278. and that there weren't more serious injuries.
279. He clearly had no regard for human life on the road.
280. It ended in a violent crash that left one police officer injured.
281. The suspect was immediately arrested at the scene Details remain limited as the investigation continues Military officials have now identified all eight people killed in Monday Fury B bomber crash
282. in the Mojave Desert. The victims include four active duty airmen, a reservist and three
283. government civilians and contractors. The U.S. Air Force says the Stratofortress heavy bomber crashed
284. and burst into flames shortly after takeoff at Edwards Air Force Base. The crew was conducting
285. a routine radar modernization test mission when the plane went down. Today Edwards Air Force Base
286. experienced a horrible tragedy and we lost eight great Americans. This crash is deemed to be
287. unsurvivable and right now our thoughts and prayers are with the families of
288. those that lost their loved ones. We're sending teams out to notify the next of
289. kin right now as we speak and those next of kin notifications will take place
290. over the coming hours and remainder of the day. Base officials say the massive
291. explosion was completely unsurvivable. Emergency crews contained the wreckage
292. to the remote airfield and Air Force investigators say it could take up to
293. six months to determine what caused the accident.
294. This marks the deadliest B-52 crash in over
295. 40 years.
296. A shelter-in-place order was in effect Wednesday for parts of
297. Boiley Heights as a massive fire tore through a
298. commercial building. Flames broke out just before 2.30pm
299. Wednesday afternoon at the Lime Age Cold Food Storage
300. facility on south los angeles and palo streets the fire erupted on the roof engulfing a large
301. grid of solar panels our first responding companies responded to 1400 south los palos
302. street this is a commercial area in boyle heights and what they encountered was a very large 1000
303. by 500 foot commercial building.
304. Initial companies that arrived on scene
305. reported fire through the roof on a portion of this roof.
306. The Los Angeles Fire Department immediately went
307. into an aggressive offensive stance
308. in trying to mitigate this fire.
309. We got companies that were going on the roof
310. and companies that were going inside the building.
311. It turns out that this is a very large cold storage facility with a field of solar panels on the roof.
312. Thick black smoke from the inferno was highly visible, creating a massive plume scene for miles across the downtown Los Angeles skyline.
313. Conditions quickly became too dangerous for an interior attack, forcing firefighters off the roof and out of the building.
314. The cause of fire remains under investigation.
315. It's now time for your weekly weird news headline of the week.
316. Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez may have scored the goals for the World Cup for Mexico,
317. but a duck stole the show.
318. As Mexico celebrated its World Cup opening victory over South Africa on Thursday,
319. Merlin, a two-year-old duck dressed in the national team's colors,
320. became an unlikely internet sensation and the tournament's first unofficial
321. mascot now images of Merlin paraded through
322. Mexico City wearing a Mexican national team jersey and socks as the thousands of fans celebrated quickly The video went viral racking up millions of views across social media
323. And on Monday, Merlin and the family owners met with FIFA representatives to shoot photos and now a commercial.
324. Now the family hopes Mexico's famous feathered supporter can continue to bring luck to the host nation,
325. which is staging the World Cup for the third time after hosting the tournament in 1970 and 1986.

374. The zoot suit was a style of the era And so it really went across other ethnicities talking about other ethnicities time for us to turn the page and head right up from little Tokyo into Chinatown
375. Chinatown and beyond.
376. So excited to be talking about this again.
377. I know there's been a lot going on.
378. And, you know, the buzz that I love about Los Angeles right now is the peace that the World Cup is bringing to Los Angeles
379. and being able to celebrate different parts of L.A. and just different parts of the country.
380. So I'm glad that we're bringing focus to Chinatown because I know there's a lot going on there.

393. Now, I know sometimes contemporary art galleries can feel a little intimidating, but Charlie James Gallery is not that kind of space.
394. The vibe here is welcoming, thoughtful, and curious.
395. It's a contemporary art gallery, yes, but it doesn't feel cold or closed off.
396. This week's show is On the Edge by Barbara Carrasco, a legendary Chicana artist and activist.
397. The exhibition brings together new and historical paintings, and Carrasco's work spans more than five decades of art, activism, community, and storytelling.
398. Barbara Carrasco's work is deeply connected to Los Angeles.
399. She's known for creating pieces that center people, history, and communities that are too often overlooked or undervalued.
400. Her work has appeared across paintings, murals, posters, prints, and installation, and it carries a strong political voice without ever losing the human feeling underneath it.
401. So here's my ideal afternoon or evening move.

422. Grab a glass of wine, eat dim sum, or have dinner at Golden Dragon, and suddenly you'll have had a full cultural afternoon without needing a checklist.
423. That's the beauty of Chinatown. It gives you time and room to wander.
424. And Charlie James Gallery is one of those places that reminds you why small galleries matter.
425. They're often showing artists before the big institutions catch up.

438. now and some great canvases. There is a beautiful canvas on Dolores Huerta and then she has this
439. series with ICE and the ICE immigration element. So very, very politically charged but that's what
440. artwork is and it's wonderful to see that from her perspective. Time for us to go ahead and swing on

445. see what he's able to talk to us about. Juneteenth is that focus on the end of slavery and how that
446. works out. And it was because of the Biden administration that now it's a holiday. And so
447. Aaron is going to go ahead and break that down, but there are so many things happening around our community to celebrate this and how wonderful that Aaron's got his finger right on the pulse of that.

463. You have been listening to none other than Ray Charles and the Ray Letts singing Lift Your Voice and Sing in honor of Juneteenth, known as the Negro National Anthem.
464. The date, Juneteenth, in history that the Union soldiers arrived in Texas to let the slaves know that they had been emancipated.
465. It took a while for the Union soldiers to even get to Texas.
466. This holiday was largely celebrated by black Texans until it became an official holiday when former President Joe Biden signed it into law in 2021.
467. Lift Every Voice and Sing was written originally as a poem by James Weldon Johnson, a school principal and NAACP leader to commemorate the birthday of Abraham Lincoln, incorporating themes of struggles of the Reconstruction era.
468. In 1919, the NAACP proclaimed the song as the Negro National Anthem, and get this, it was declared as the Negro National Anthem 12 years before the Star Spangled Banner was adopted as the National Anthem of the United States.
469. This version of Lift Every Voice and Sing by Ray Charles was from his album A Message from the People.
470. Released in 1972, it became one of his most celebrated performances on the Dick Cavett Show in September of that year.

512. Man, the World Cup has just been making such an impact, an impact that we all knew that we needed.
513. but it's so refreshing to see, you know, other people from other countries come here and recognize that not all of us are what the media portrays,
514. just like any other country, and for them to really understand that there is a sense of community across the board in various, you know, cities and things like that.
515. So I'm excited for Joanna to talk about this in the USA game.
516. You know, one of the things that gets me excited about the World Cup is Los Angeles is such a melting pot.
517. It is.
518. And when you see somebody with the last name like Lopez or Martinez, our natural inclination is to think that everyone is Mexicano.
519. Now, of course, I'm a Chicano.
520. Man, I'm Mexicano by birth and all that.
521. And that's great.
522. But you know what I love is when I see people wearing the jersey from Ecuador or Paraguay or Brazil.
523. And then you say, hey, you know, you might say, hey, Eddie Martinez, I didn't know that you're Argentinian.
524. Yeah.
525. And it's, yeah, I am, you know.
526. Colombian.
527. Yeah.
528. You know, and I'm guilty of something like that.
529. I, you know, I'm from East LA, so I assume that most people are Mexican.

531. But it's interesting when you start, you're like, oh, wait, you're actually Argentinian
532. or you're Colombian or you're this.

597. So, what does that look like?
598. Cut your sessions to about 45 minutes.
599. Focus on compound movements like squat variations, back rows, dumbbell presses, and other exercises that train multiple muscle groups at once.
600. Train with intensity. Prioritize quality over quantity.
601. Focus on progressive overload.
602. You don't need more volume. You need smarter intensity and better recovery.

704. The outrage account is closed. That card declined years ago, and y'all keep swiping it like the machine is broken.
705. You cannot shock black people with a joke you have been telling for almost 10 years.
706. At this point, it does not offend us. It just makes you look weird.
707. Michelle Obama has not been first lady since January 2017.
708. Almost a decade. That woman is somewhere living her best life, opening libraries, selling books, talking about relationships, minding her black woman business.
709. And somehow, y'all are still gathered around a government-sponsored backyard brawl talking about her body.
710. That is not politics. That is a condition and notice something black people do not spend all day talking about melania trump
711. Not because we do not have material, please. We could talk about who she married. We could talk about internet rumors
712. We could make a whole documentary called the greatest come up in human history
713. We could spend two hours debating whether somebody was a 304 before they got famous
714. But we do not because we do not care our feelings toward melania are mostly indifference with a little bit of blink twice
715. Sis, if everything is okay, but michelle obama y'all cannot leave that black woman alone and that tells us everything
716. This was never about comedy, never about biology, never about truth
717. It is about black joy
718. Some people cannot stand seeing a black woman admired, loved, respected, protected, successful, moisturized, booked, busy, and completely unbothered
719. So officially, from us to you, we do not care
720. We know Michelle Obama is not a man
721. She is about as black woman as black woman can get
722. And honestly, most of us think y'all look ridiculous
723. Gas is over $4 nationally
724. People are dealing with rent, groceries, inflation, tariffs, and wars this country did not need
725. And y'all are throwing a cage fight on the White House lawn while talking about Michelle Obama

727. that is MAGA flailing with Brazilian jiu-jitsu
728. while the country is asking where the rent money went.
729. We could be cruel. We could be petty.
730. We could spend all day gossiping about politicians and their families.
731. But most days, we choose sense.
